I bought a Proxxon bandsaw. Paid too much for it but I bought it for its small size. It does not have enough torque and blades break way too easy. I've broken 5 blades cutting pine since getting it and I was being very careful going really slow listening attentively to the sounds while cutting and backing off whenever I heard any indication that the blade was slowing down and might slip (trying different tensions had no affect). So I would not recommend it and I too am looking for a recommendation of a not too big not too expensive good quality bandsaw with tough blades like my Dewalt scroll saw.
I have the Skil also. Have to go slow and be very careful not to break a blade. My ratio so far is about 1 blade per 6 cars! Got a refurb model ay CPO outlets online
It has worked perfect and the blades are easy to change and adjust. I only use it for pinewood derby. It is affordable and available at the Home Depot. If it broke today I would buy it again without question.
Note that this saw is out of production currently, but parts are still available. I just got the urethane tires and 3 Dads wanted to adopt it immediately after using it.
I have a Ryobi from Home Depot. I know some Ryobi stuff is not so good, but I am very happy with my band saw. It cuts true and straight and I haven't had any problems with it. I've had it for about 4 years.
I picked up a Jet 10" (includes stand) at woodcraft. 15% off because they go on sale soon and they are honoring the price. I also picked up a timber wolf blade which may be the best part. I will give a full report!
