Ha ha, this year at our race it was my son who kept going up and readjusting the pillow before his car ran. He has crossed over to boy scouts so he was retrieving the cars after they raced. Later I asked him why only before his race, he said cause the other cars were barely hitting it
We have never had a problem with cars going over/off the stop, just occurred to me why! We have a 49 foot track, that extra 7 feet slows them before they hit the stop.
I wonder if you left enough room/weight to put a layer of tungsten putty over your weights if it would help. It’s kinda soft and frilly, might grip the stop and be non destructive.
I do, packing tape tape for our scout cars do it is visible. Just meant a spot somewhere you could use the putty and leave that portion exposed, smoothed out where it’s not going to affect they aerodynamics of course.
Put a few strips of scotch tape on some wax paper. Spray with 3M adhesive.
Let dry totally. Now peel off and put original sticky side down on back of car. Makes a great non- abrasive brake. Worked great at Pack, but was so loaded up with dirt it was too slick at Districts- we should have done a fresh one- took pillow instead.
I guess if you can’t get to end of the track to safely grab it... (I really would rather not put something on the bottom of the car that will be pulled on even more than by just the stop rubber)but what about just a simple piece of 2 sided tape like what we use to attach our weight?
Of course after a few I suppose that would start to get coated in graphite and not be as sticky.
You have no idea. I volunteered to set up the track this year after our cars few off two years in a row. I asked about supplies to wipe the track off and was told wiping the graphite off just makes the run times slower at the start. The stop section looked some it hadn’t been wiped in at least a decade.
