The superstitions about Jig have proven to all be false. Hot, cold, this can, that can, upright, upside down, shaken, unshaken, laid on it's side, it's all performed the same.

You've tried shaken - but have you tried stirred?

I keep my can of Jig in a #2 mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's back porch. It's worth a solid .001!

No results yet. I'll get it tested when I can. When I do Corvid will be the first to know and he can decide on what he wants to do with the results. If it's fast I can guarantee that only Corvid will get the process details with the stipulation that he keeps them. I had some other things to test this year and Jig is still the King. I'm at the bottom of my first can after all this time. The superstitions about Jig have proven to all be false. Hot, cold, this can, that can, upright, upside down, shaken, unshaken, laid on it's side, it's all performed the same.
So what you aree saying is all cans of jig are equal

I've heard some talk that only cans with a certain date are the best? Any truth

Being the man who HAD 100's of cans, I have tested all different dated cans with no diffence.

Application seems to be the key.

Our rules have been amended again to allow oil after only allowing graphite for the last 3 years. We still have some of the Dupont Dry Lube in the Blue Spray Can that they quit making. Is it still the prep of choice or is Jig the way to go if we can find it or is there something better?

As far as the general pinewood population knows, Jig is the axle spray supreme.

The Dupont Teflon Spray (either old Blue can or Chain Saver) is regarded as a substitute, but inferior.

Possible contenders are Mo-Deck and Infinilube, but the jury's out, as far as I know.

Huh, had literally never heard of the stuff before. Out of curiosity, is it safe for plastic, too?

If I had to suggest an alternative, it would be Amsoil Silicone spray. Infinilube is much slower.

In googling up amsoil silicone spray I found this. It lubricates rubber, plastic, wood, nylon, vinyl, and so much more. It says it is recommended for metal to nonmetal surfaces as well as metal to metal surfaces. But wait there's more. It also waterproofs fabric and leather and softens skin while you do the dishes. Okay I made that last part up. It does sound like a good lubricant to try.

This might be a little off topic, but does anybody have a quantitative idea of how much faster Jig-a-Loo is, than, say, a particular alternative?

Like, if I have two BASX-class cars, built identically, same oil, same bore wax, but one has axles sprayed with Jig and the other has axles sprayed with Dupont Chain Saver. How much faster is the Jig car going to be?

I've sprayed the Amsoil directly onto the wheel and allowed it to sits a few days. I did not see any side effects to the wheel, so I would say that it is safe for the wheel.

Is Amsoil less noxious than Jig or DuPont?

Here is the MSDS link for the product. I don't recall if it had an unpleasant odor or not and I can't find the can that I had.

Thanks, GravityX! Just looking it over, it looks like it's a lot less nasty than some other things that come in a can.

Chain Saver has a lot more nastiness, in their MSDS.
And the performance is close to Jig? Better than Chain Saver, at least?

I'd be more comfortable showing something like this to folks in a Scout workshop than something that's gonna clear the room with the fumes.

To be honest, I have not tested the effectiveness of this compared to Jig.
