Best method for alignment if you can't alter the slots

The rules say you have to use the precut slots and they cannot be altered in any way. Has anybody had any success putting the axles in at an angle without drilling to get the rear wheels canted?

I think I'm going to put a small bit under the sides of a test block and clamp it down to the drill press. I'll drill it and see if I'm happy.

Many basic builder scouts / parents will glue axles into the slots in hope that the wheels they struggled to mount dont fall out during the race. Fill the slots with epoxy in advance, let it fully cure. Then drill into the now solid epoxy just as if you dont have this rule. You could even leave a gap in the epoxy in the middle of the body where the axles dont quite meet to make you epoxy job less obvious.

Inserting an axle into the slot modifies it. Drilling into the slot modifies it in just the same way. Only more accurately.

Yep, and there's no way anyone can tell that's what you did.

However....here's a very non-precise way to cant your axles if you don't think you can drill the slots, and it's pretty easy:

Put them in straight, then use this: Insert pick into slot. Slide the tip under the axle, and rock the pick back the other way and eyeball the axle. As I said, very imprecise, but you can definitely end up with canted axles and you didn't drill or modify anything.
