Which is better before I go buy the tools to do either? I have a Dremel and stand. A hand router, a fancy dewalt scroll saw and a drill press. I can do either style just want to know what is faster from those who have traveled this path before me.

1/64 over weight pockets only?? Not over the rest of the body? Even if you cut out the front sections? Dies this apply differently is using a BSA vs sugar pine or basswood?

We do over pocket only an then I use Monokote Trim sheets (adhesive backed)to cover the body for decoration (weightless) and packaging tape to cover bottom so there are no open crevasses for air to bounce around in. We only cover the whole body topside with the ply if one of the kids wants to paint vs cover.

Other than the trim sheets a lot of guys use vinyl, some do paper, some print on adhesive backed paper... you get the idea.
Hope that helps.

That helps a lot. Question why not use the monokote on the bottom also if it is weightless? Vs packing tape?

I route my pockets, because I'm horrible with a scroll saw. If you look at Spacewalker's video he shows a way to do it by drilling a bunch of holes and then finish cutting out the pocket with a knife. There are many ways to achieve the same goal. Be creative, and do what you are most comfortable with. Heck, try them all then decide what's your favorite.

Cost. Trim sheets are about 10 to 12 cars worth of covering ea. About $5-$6 a sheet. A roll of packaging tape will cover the bottoms of a million cars. lol
I even have a BASX car that has printed paper on it with packaging tape over that.
Trim sheets aren't expensive, I just don't like wasting it on the bottoms of cars when I have packaging tape which is almost as weightless. Personal preference is all.

LOL!!! You heard NOTHING. Shhhhhhh.
Yeah it’s the car I started league racing with at APR back in 2018. Only raced him one stage and the finals that year then had to stop racing due to finances. But I can resist him no longer. He’s coming out of retirement in June. So the goal is running both Box Stock and BASX for now. Then Pure Stock which is currently only running at APR.
I am slowly getting back to being able to race more I hope.
