So when is a car at its fastest? Is it just after a fresh prep or after a brake in period? At what point are you over doing it? In other words how many runs would be ok to make before sending a car off to race? I just don't want to over do it and kill any speed while testing!Or is it the other way around. I know some don't even put there cars on a track before racing, just a tuning board.

At a live race a you are a tad faster after your first run. Many oil cars can do many runs and not slow down, so as you tune the car you an find speed. The number of runs during a tune session will vary depending on the car and tuning process but this process will depend on the success of the car. A long story short, when I'm tuning a car it's never to "break it in" it's to find the set up that particular car likes. So if the car beats my first place car, i'm sending it off now and not ricking destroying the car, if the car falls short of the best car I have I'll tune the heck out of it until I kill it or it becomes my top dog.

So in other words if your faster than your fastest let it be, got it. Or not fast enough run the crap out it or smash it and start all over ! Thanks, great answer Bull dog
