I am no pro but I watch, read and see things and with understanding in the hobby business.. for 5 years of selling and helping people ... and over 15 in building things. I have used this method for my fins on Model Rockets, my wood is balsa not pine. Theory is to use thin glue to fill the pores of the wood. I can say in balsa wood it makes it very stiff and strong. It allows me to use spot putty to cover the grains of the wood.. I then sand smooth and shoot with primer and prep for paint..
In one of Spacewalkers videos he mentions that he does that process to seal the wood for strength and help in primer process in his pine wood derby cars. It looks like when he primers his car it is not absorbed into the wood much..
Yup R&R ......Your right it could get sticky and then stuck ... Make sure to have DE-BONDER....
Do any of you know how much weight this adds to the balsa? I.e. If I take a piece of Balsa 1 x 6 x .25 inches, and call the weight 100%, after applying the "stuff" b4 any other painting, then how much? 125% ????
