Car questions for mid america derby

My son and I are gonna build a car to proxy race for the mid america derby race (scout class).
I had a few questions for those who have raced in it before.
How do they stage the cars? Is there any specific instructions or labels in order to stage-just daylight
on the dfw?
I noticed they allowed a re-graphite for the finals, if you are not there in person would it be best
to just race in the oil class?, so that won't be a problem. I had thought of entering 2 cars, one graphite and the other oil. But of course by proxy racing I can't add graphite.
Thanks

I seem to remember Greg saying that the volunteers will re-graphite for you if you put graphite in the box?

I think I recall hearing that all cars have graphite added no matter what. This takes care of any oil cars that may have slipped through the initial inspection.
Ninja oil cars will get ruined.

Correct all cars in the finals get graphite in the graphite classes

What if someone doesn't want you to re-graphite their car. When my boys raced we used another dry lube and somebody re-graphiting our car would have killed it. What if you get a lot more on one than you do another? There are potential speed differences in this.

Also, how are the cars staged...Do I need to send instructions?
or how do the volunteers stage cars?

You can send ordes on how to or not re graphite... Be aware if you requested no graphite the cad will be looked at much closer to ensure it is a graphite car.... As the rules state "graphite only"

If you are running a different lube than graphite - then enter the oil division (which allows any lubricant to be used)... like Coach's Secret Lube - if you are racing in the GRAPHITE ONLY Division then use Graphite Only -- if you would like to have your cars wheels re-graphite (if they make the finals) we will have plenty of staff, pro's and all kinds of people that can assist any proxy racer and yes - Every Car will have graphite added to the car... it is Exactly meant to deter anyone from running any other lube besides graphite... if you have a different lube you want to run race in the oil division - intended exactly for that reason.

I know that there will be many of the top builders and racers from around the country at the event and you could not be asking a more qualified group to assist if you are a proxy racer. We will have every know type of graphite available... to be used as most builders send their own graphite if they want it to be used.

I hope that helps

I would also advice to write any instructions for type of graphite or how you want (or not) it done on bottom of car... Loose paper instructions are tough to keep track of

In regards to staging - remember Cub Scout - Kid - Adult racing ... not Pro-Racing. We have a Very Qualified group of stagers - that have years of experience staging 1,000's of cars - which includes myself. We stage square to the track and centered, FDW with a thread of daylight between the rail and FDW. We run our races in a rapid fire progression - I encourage you to watch the videos from last year... you can find the videos of all the racing on the website www.midamericaderby.com

So to answer your question - we do not stage cars per instructions but in a very uniform manner, with care and attention to detail but in a fashion that keeps racing going at a fast pace -- in order for us to race 350+ cars ... this year should be close to 400+ cars just on the scout, kids and adult side - we have to move.

I hope that helps - we have never had any issues or complaints

Exactly 6 runs... unless (I will explain) - each car races once in each lane - there are 6 lanes... the worst time is dropped the average of the best 5 times is used to create an average composite time. - only if there is a tie for something like 12th and 13th place - would there be an exception (which there was last year) - The top 12 cars advance to finals - should there be a tie then the cars that are tied for the spots to get into the finals there would be a run off... between just those cars -- all of this is clearly outlined and explained in the rules - I would suggest taking a look - www.midamericaderby.com
