Clarifying Appropriate Wheels

I've created a chart for myself that I'm happy to share, showing at a glance which DD4H wheels to use for which NPWDRL classes. Here it is:

Below follows a discussion about updating and improving this chart to it's present form:

I'm not sure which of the scout wheels would be legal in Street Pro, and I'm not sure that non-razor style wheels are legal in Eliminator and Unlimited, so I didn't know what to put. It's silly I know, a BASX wheel will never run fast in those classes, but is it technically legal? It reads like it might be if I'm reading this right.

Is there anything else you would add to this chart?

I can't read it either. I don't know why you would want to use a heavier or wider wheel in a class, but you can.

I think the only mistake I've found since I posted that was on Street Rod, I believe the Dynasty Rage can be changed to OK.

I'm not sure I'd use two best's for each class. I'd use a best and second best or good.

Nice job! We've been needing one of these for a while. It won't help veteran racers who already have their process down, but this is perfect for racers just starting out. Many people are confused with how the classes work and it's a process to try and interpret the rules and analyze wheels choices to decide what is legal. Thanks for making this!

From the description on DD4H site it looks like nitros would be fine for MA.

I didn't catch this second comment earlier.

I'm ok with two bests, I think it's safe to leave it up to the racer which wheel, old or new style, they choose, I'm not convinced that the speed gain of the old style is that dominant, it sounds like a good racer should be able to get either wheel to perform near the top.

For a beginner, or even a mid pack racer, the cheaper alternative is probably the best alternative, if you are a top 5 or top 3 racer, and you need that small edge, then I'd say choose the wheel that gives you the edge. But my chart isn't going to confuse a top racer into choosing the wrong wheel.

CWT, thanks for taking the time and effort to assemble a wheel selection chart. I makes a good visual reference for the new forum members when deciding on a wheel choice.

Can this post be made a sticky so that it can be found easily?

I'd still consider making changes. Some are listed as OK but I wouldn't recommend them. i.e. I wouldn't recommend (OK) running an unturned wheel in anything other than the strictest scout race. JMO

Maybe change the "OK" to "Meets Reqts", meaning that the wheels are within the rules, but not necessarily recommended / the best choice.

I like the chart though. Just look for "Best" for what to purchase for a particular class.

As a side note, there is a special cut of the Nitros for MA that I would consider the best, and the standard Nitros I would consider good. Not sure if this would get confusing since the MA Nitros need to be run reversed.
