Completed scout car DROPPED!! Advice needed!!!

Hey guys,

My scout and I finished burnishing the graphite on the wheels and installed them onto his car last night. His Grandmother came over and he wanted to show her... He went and got it down off the workbench shelf no problem. He went to put it back on the shelf and placed the car on the work bench while he was climbing up and it rolled off onto the concrete floor...

It impacted on the DRW cracking the wheel and bending the axle. Ohhh and the tungsten bar flew out. It cracked the paint where the wheel went into the body but the body looks like it has survived (no obvious cracks and feels solid).

Is there anything I can/should do to test if everything is Ok? I know it is probably not perfect but we have another wheel/axle we can polish and prep using DD4Hs stuff so I'm not worried there. Thoughts? 4 days til the race... too late to start over.

Kyle, I haven't done this before but ...where are you located? We might be able to help out? If not fix what you can, set the steer, listen closely to the wheel axle combinations for noise (possible flat spots).

Remember to use this as a learning opportunity as I am sure your Cub feels terrible. Remind him that accidents can and do happen. I feel for the both of you.

Thanks for your replies. I do not have access to a track so we are trying to do the best we can without. The other wheels/axles sound good (although I'm no expert). They are all spinning smoothly and the wheels seem fine. I inspected everything pretty thoroughly. I am concerned once we reinstall the rear wheel and test the alignment that it will be off. I'm hoping it will be right on and I will sleep soundly...

BTW I'm just outside of Philadelphia

That might be a bit far ... I am in Minnesota. have you seen the speed square test method? That might be another way to check the rear alignment? If needed, you can always put a slight bend in one rear axle. Insert it and turn it until the car tracks straight and the wheels migrate to the axle heads when rolling both ahead and back. Not ideal, but it can work.

Yeah i would say if the wheels are stock out of the kit then start fresh with a new wheel and axle and maybe a little bit extra krazy glue on the weights

Nice we always vacation in OC. We are going to finish the wheel/axle replacement tonight and see how it goes. I'll post up results.

Well alignment was 7" of steer over 4ft instead of the set 6" prior. Not terrible. Looks good rolling down the alignment board. We adjusted as necessary and put it on the shelf. Whew!

sit the car on an unfinished block its the perfect fit and the wheels hang off the side so it cant roll away
