I guess I really took for granted we built a great car for this powderpuff derby.....we had the fastest speed for today of 227.9 on a 35 foot track... were in the top three of the top six for the finals... Here is where the confusion comes in... We ran 222- 227 - 219 and the 213 then 227... one lane only was really slow... I also notcied on 2 of the six we had front end wobble and on the other 4 we ran without any wiggle at all..... why would this happen? The other thing I wonder is if we won 2 of 6 heats ... is it even possible to be 4th out of 6 ... My thoughts are that if we were the fastest in time in 2 of 6 ... at a mininmum we should be in the top3? Am I that off in my thinking? Signed sore loser...... whos is rebuilding for next year.

First off. It's hard to go by speed because you can win or lose by 0.0001 and have the same speeds as the guys next to you. So you have to go buy the times rather than speeds. I think the 219 and 213 runs is what hurt you.

Second. Not all lanes run the same. I noticed in the March NPWDRL the red lane was the fastest of them all, at least my fastest times we're the red lane. So you will have some lanes faster than others. There's other variables that come into play too. "Dirty wind" from other cars can cause you to wiggle or lose speed. Staging could also slow you down as well. At pack races, they kind of just set the car on the track and go, so times can be inconsistant that way.

Keep at it. Most of the fun is in the build. Learn from the site, see your mistakes and improve on your times.

Sounds like you're off to a great start! I tell you, those girls can be tougher than the boys.

That's the truth. They are more competitive in my experience.

Around here, they all run together...there's no 'troop' race like the Cubs have a Pack race, and it's not separated by different levels, either. (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, etc.)

It is one big run off. And all the girls I have helped say they want a pretty car....until they get to the track. THEN they want a fast car, and they get bent if theirs is not.

I have yet to see a year where the fastest Powderpuff car would not be even, if not beat the fastest Cub car. Dads don't play when it comes to their baby girls, lol.

Sure appreciate the comments... we spent alot of time on the boys cars and they didn't lose a race until they got to didstrict and were only 2/100th's out of first.... I was hoping to improve with this build for my girl... but maybe the lesson I was intended to learn was not so much about the build but more about humility and grace. I hope each and every racer that hits the foroum today is blessed and has an awsesome day.

Congrats! You say you lost 4 heats and won 2 heats. It doesn't really matter which heats you lost and which you won. It all depends on who you raced. You could have come in 4th in all races and took 4th. There are many other scenarios on your placing. It just was the luck of the draw on who you raced and what your overall times were.

We ran 2.401 2.424 2.430 2.403 2.431 and 2.37 on an 35 fot aluminum We actually set the record for the day2.37 and 2.401 at 227.9 mph and 227.6 mph... and was the fastest car in all our heats. They raced the fastest 6 in a final 6 runs... we had very similar runs there as well with what I consider to be one slower run at 2.43 and 213 mph..,,,but then again everyone that ran in that lane was slow..some slower than others ge but had signifigcant drods in there average.

JRB-

Nice looking car .. Just think of the memories you have with your kids.... That makes you #1 IN THEIR EYES... That is what really matters.. How much fun and time spent together... The race is secondary... You did well and in time things will work out on the builds as you gain more knowledge...

Usually they take your combined time from all heats per round. You may have won 2 heats in the faster lanes when a faster car happened to be running in the slower lane. They could also score it by points from 1-6. 1st gets 6pts. 2nd 5pts. and so on. Either way someone could potentially never win a heat but still rank #1 if they were the most consistent and the other cars had some bad runs.

Looks like a nice car and those look to be good times.

If it is any consolation, I never try to get hung up over where we placed, but instead, I get consumed in making our next car better. I urge the kid to evaluate each run (I always do) to determine where an improvement can be made. I can only imagine how many blocks of wood we've wasted in the pursuit of perfection, and compared to some here, we am far from it.

Yep, 2 years ago, my daughter's car ran the fastest time of the day. Unfortunately, her very first run for whatever reason was considerably slower than the rest of her runs.

That big gap dropped her to 3rd place...behind 2 girls who we helped build their cars. Luckily, she also got 4th for Originality, so that saved my bacon. Girls from our troop took 1st through 4th that year.

The next year, they wanted me to do a build clinic for the whole area....not sure how I was going to manage that, but luckily (or unluckily) I had shoulder surgery and couldn't do it.

Hopefully the surgery went well and the healing process was successful...I know as diligent as I was about this car... iw ill turn it up a notch and start and start racing against the big boys... I figure if I am gonna get whooped... get whooped by the best and lear things in the process.. Besides I feel pretty blessed to have met some fine folks and leared some great things on here in the process....Maybe I'll mess around and get pretty decent at building these things...and in the process have a heck of a good time with my kids..I appreciate you all..Thanks a bunch for the knowledge and support!!!!

As long as you're learning and having fun, what more can you ask for? You will only improve your skills in building, getting faster and helping other. Youd be amazed how many people on hear learn from others mistakes. I've made PLENTY of them, but by sharing my mistakes, hopefully it'll stop others from making the same and save them time and money. Not to mention racing in the NPWDRL is pretty cool, especially when you watch it live. Although I havent got John's voice out of my head saying Kinser every 2minutes.
