Hey guys I am looking for some design ideas for the boys district race in Feb. He cannot have fenders or anything like that. I am wondering if I should go extended wheelbase or standard. He will be on mostly older wood tracks. I usually have 1/4" thick designs so any help with a design will be appreciated. On a side note I will be getting my block and axles from John. Thanks Fellas

I free-handed the Viper shape for my son's latest car as well as my current BASX car. When I cut out the template I actually folded it in half to cut both sides the same so they were more symmetrical.

I screwed up the paintjob on mine but I had a friend do a vinyl print of the design I helped my son make in a photoshop type program.

My son won his first District championship (Bear — rank only, they didn't do a grand championship) with this design:

He has been using the same design ever since (having let me talk him into at least changing the nose), winning District a second time, and then winning our inaugural TLU Pinewood Grand Prix Grand Championship.

where did you find the printout for the layout? or did you make it?

I put together different elements and made a skin.I did it as a 7"x1.75" rectangle and cut it around the profile of the body with an exacto knife after we applied it. We found the dragon head doing a Google image search for Charizard pokemon. I sat with my son and did a couple mock ups with racing stripes and eventually a windshield. Then I drew it in a paint program on the computer and he picked the colors.

I like that design as well NG. I have a question for you. Do you still shave a little off the dominant front wheel.

Yes, I took a screen grab from your site last year and got it to print to scale and have been using it ever since. Don't know if I said it before but THANK YOU for putting all that info all in one place. It is a very valuable resource for getting anyone started in PWD.

No I did not. I am OK with a little dog tracking, from what other have said it isn't really that necessary. I didn't want to get his car looking un-symmetrical. The league car I entered with the same shape but with a thinner profile I ended up shaving one side. Our district also has a rule about leaving the width 1.75" at the axles. They would likely not even check and let it pass as long as it fit in the Go/No-Go box but I don't want to have to deal with it any added scrutiny. We're expecting to make a huge speed jump from last year.
