Duct Tape Car Cover

Hey,

Anyone use duct to cover a car in stead of vinyl or monokote? Seems like it would do the trick-light, stick, cool patterns (these days). Any concern that the sticky edge could foul a wheel? Could just make sure you have 1/16 rim of wood around the edges?

I helped my nephew win district this year and we used flame duct tape as a cover and it also won 3rd best of show and grand champion. With my league cars I've used ultra clear packing tape for top and bottom cover.

I haven't done it personally, but I've seen a couple cars that have and they turned out quite nice. Edges fouling the wheels is a concern for just about any covering, so just take the usual precautions and it should be fine.

I have used Scrap Booking tape, its like shipping tape but has a pattern on the surface. I used the 2" wide tape, applied it to the body and used a new sharp razor blade to trim the excess off. I just left the sides of the car as bare wood.

Please don't use duct tape. Some of it is really gummy and you'll have a terrible time getting it off not to mention it could get on the stop section then other cars.

I have used it. My car Break-Up is covered with a camo patterned tape on the top only, left the sides painted to match. I then clear coated to smooth out the finish . Not that it is a very fast car but it did go sub 3 in March.
