The FastTrack timers are probably the most common timers used because of the price and the fact that they work well. Also, they have good support and customer service.

Its the timer I use. I have the K3.

If you have handy carpentry skills, buy the kits that you can put together . Their cheaper and not hard to put together at all. Have Fasttrack guy solder your electronics together and you put it together and save a lot of money. Also you can purchase older kits and save even more. If your handy at soldering sensitive electronics , your could save even more money. Even I have built 2 of them in the last couple years, so it must be easy !!!!....SPIRIT.....Buy the way the first one didn't go bad, I built the second one for a friend.

I have a K3 as well, but seriously considered the P3 timer. You have to build the housing, but with some pictures of a microwizard timer, the housing would be fairly simple to create. The P3 is the older version of the K3 using an LCD display type, showing the place and the elapsed time. It would be $100 for a single lane timer, plus an additional 30 for each successive lane. The only reason why I did not purchase the P3 was because of the plug and play ability of a pre built timer. If you are building your own track, the P3 timer is the way to go. on the k3 how long does it display times, i know it alternates from place to time but how long till it resets for next race... is it once the start gate is returned to starting position?

You can adjust it.

Currently the K3 might have the most advanced chip. League racing really has put pressure on the timer manufacturers to have ultra accurate equipment. I have not heard if Smartline upgraded the Champ timer hardware or not. The scout races do not require the same accuracy. In the last King of the Hill race me and DaPine tied something like 25 times in a row. Watching it there was a clear winner many of the times and that is when Micro Wizard upgraded the chips they have in the timers.

The Champ has some nice features also with the dual side display. I like the larger digits on the K3 for what we do.

i will be using it without the computer software just the sign, can it still be adjusted without computer hooked up?

It will display alternating place and time indefinitely until you reset the start gate or pull the power plug.
