First Post and Mid America questions

New to the site here. We race in a competitive Council with over 1000 cars raced in 2 days(from 12 counties spread out across 2 states).

We entered the Mid America race, our first ever proxy race.

We ran graphite (our council rules) with a main purpose to get a baseline and benchmark our times.

We did better than I had expected, but I am left to wonder which racers were using oil and which were running graphite in the open scout class.

It seems that more than a few of the names are here.

Does anyone have pictures of these cars? I am also interested in knowing if the cars had fenders, either front or rear or both. We did not have fenders.

I know you didn’t list my son, but we came in 17[sup]th[/sup] Wroblewski. We had 2 sub 3 runs.

We used graphite Hobby-E-Lube no fenders. Our car wasn’t set up to be a rail runner, but with some dumb luck it ran close to one on my tuning board. If I knew then what I have learned the last few weeks looking at these boards, I feel we could have done much better.

Our car did win our district race and we had 100+ cars entered nowhere near your numbers. But this Mid-America race was filled with some pretty elite talent.

Mid America - Coggburn. Open scout. Finished 2nd in Tigers, and 14th overall. Sub 3 every run.

As you can see the car is not very Areodynamic with the canopy, figures, and banana on there. The added surface profile, drag, and extra weight probably slowed the car some I imagine. But the boy had a vision and went with it. We love how it turned out.

We ran graphite at our pack and district races and finished 1st, and 3rd.

Then for Mid America we ran DD4H 92 pro axles, DD4H cheeta 2gram wheels, and prepped using DD4H process and oil. The car had no test runs or break in time on the prep job. (oil is so nice and clean, smooth. I wish our pack and district allowed oil.)

The car ran fast and smooth from the get go. I think we lucked out with the axle drilling and nailed it. ( I held the block while my son operated the drill press.)

He really wants fenders on his scout car next year so I will cut out some front and rear fenders and let him sand and shape them. Actually I think I will have him build a street stock car for the NPWDRL race in august. Or maybe you guys will see the Mario car there.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Tedbull that Mario car looks cool as heck and the banana definitely takes it over the top.

We didn't run in the open scout division, but the qualified scout division so we ran graphite.
We came in 3rd overall. No fenders and all sub 3 times.

I do believe Mr. Law had it with a 2.91xx if memory serves me correctly, think it was an oil car though. I've slept since then, correct me if I'm wrong.

This was the fastest time, but I believe the car was disqualified and did not run in the finals. I do believe this is because the car only had 3 wheels. The 4th wheel was replaced with a peg. Greg (xanthrum) would know more about this. This is the best picture I could find.

Take another look, car has 4 wheels, he just doubled up on one of the rears. Notice the offset fender to cover two wheels on one side.

from these rules- It is not clear why it would be disqualified. Any thoughts?

• There must be at least four wheels on the car, however it is not required that all four wheels make contact with the track surface – one wheel may be lifted from the track surface.
• Each wheel must be mounted on an axle, on the outside of the car, on the vertical side of the car.
• Each wheel must be attached by an axle and spin freely

Did it say the wheels have to be mounted directly across from each other? I didn't read MA rules, but in most leagues that is one of the rules......

That is the case NOW, but the rules I posted came off the MA website- I think it is similar to some older rules where this was allowed. This might be a case where leaue rules have spelled it out clearly, but other venue rules are not specific and so you get into, "but that was my intent."

Good catch on the 4th wheel. I didn't see it before. I am not sure why the car would have been DQ'd. But the times in the preliminary races would have put it in the finals, yet it wasn't in the final races.

Hmmmmm...I remember teching that car too. It was the wheel placement that made me look at the rules. I passed it since the rules don't say anything about being directly across from each other. I'd like to know if it was in fact DQ'd, what did I miss :/

The car reached an impressive and never matched 88 MPH (unscaled) and got propelled Back to the Future! It left 2 fire skid marks on the stop section upon its exit from 2013… the crowd gasped, one lady fainted... Don’t you all worry though, it will be back to run for the title at the 156[sup]th[/sup] annual MA race in 2166!

On another note, John did you see the decal on that car? It was a DerbyDad4Hire logo from 2166! Good news that DD4H will be going strong for years to come and it looks like future generations will take over the family business... That is way cool! You should fly those colors right away!

My son, Aaron Harvey, tied for 12th in Open Scout. He had no fenders, but was running oil. Axles were DD4H BSA Official Speed Axles, no grooves. Wheels were made by us. No fenders.

That fastest run in Adult was VERY suspect- faster than all the oil runs. BUT the average of his first 6 were not fast enough to get into the finals. Note the very high Std. Dev. so he might not have been disqualified at all. Times shown with top 3 finals in Adult.
