My son ran 2.98/2.97's (graphite only) on a 40 ft freedom track during his pack races and won pretty handily this year. His district race is held on a 42 ft Best Track. Any idea, all things being equal how times vary between a 40 ft freedom and a 40 ft Best Track? I beleive the actual length starting to gate is slightly longer on a Freedom and I know the curve is less aggressive, just wondering if this translates into slower times on the Freedom.

That question comes up often but there’s really no way to do anything more than guess at what time it would run. I only say that because there are so many variables as to how each track was/will be set up. Just know that if the car was fast on a Freedom track it will be fast on a BestTrack too. Fast enough though? Have to wait for race day to find out!

I have both the Freedom and Best Track. They are two different animals when it comes to tuning.

To add to what Bracket offered, Even the times between multiple Best Tracks will be different. My Best track is .025 slower than NPWDRL and .035 slower than John's track. All three tracks are from Best Track.

I found a hobby store about 60 miles away with a Best Track, I am going to try to get there this weekend if humanly possible. Hopefully that will let us know what to expect on race day and help make any last minute tweaks.

If it handles well on the Best Track it will handle well on the Freedom. This has been my limited experience.

All thanks for the responses. HurriCrane-we are pre-drilled using the clear drill jig for 3 wheel cant, any advice on adjusting the weight or cog from the freedom to the Best Track? My thinking is that I can be more aggressive with cog on the freedom due to it having a less aggressive curve. We are currently at between .42-.5 cog and all around 15g on our Dfw (we have 4 cars set up to test). Not sure if I am on the right track.

Hey Anthony, I would like to voice some caution... before you run your cars that you spent all your time and effort on be sure to look closely at that “public access track”. If it’s used and abused or even just never cleaned it could be a detriment to your wheels. If the stop section isn’t lined up right it could be worse. If the folks at that store are passionate about derby racing then you might be safe. Brian mentioned making sure the track is smooth. Check all the joints for ridges. Our churches Besttrack is only 2 years old and already a mess from just 2 seasons. After last years race the wheels I worked so hard on look like a rat chewed them. I’ll be reconditioning that track before this years race. Even right out of the box there may be flashing sticking up. I almost cut my finger on a spot. Just check that track real good before sending your hard work down it.
Curious to see how that track is cared for. Let us know how it goes.
