I have always bought Johns grooved axles for graphite over the years. We are switching to Johns Oil Process! No more messy graphite! So do I still need to use grooved axles or not ?
hmmm

there is a post on this subject you might want to look up, less axel to wheel area gives you less bearing surface which gives you more friction in a small area. I tend to agree with dd4h that if all things were perfect no grooves are the best.since the wheels are not perfect the grooved axels give you a better chance of finding a flat area to run on. I'm thinking that's why you will find every set up likes a little bit different wheel gap.I have been experimenting with both types of axels some wheels seem to like the none grooved others seem to like the grooves. TRY both.

hope this helps G.O.

I have the tendency to agree with ZZ on this. It's what I've been using without any problems. With the proper prep these axles are fast.

IMO Yes! Grooved axles give the wheels less contact surface to ride on therefore less friction.

Grooved in my experience have been superior. I have run both but found a touch more speed with the grooved on oil process.

I say grooved bro is the way to go IMO. But you're talking to someone that has been trying for a long time to get QT to use super glue as a lube for his axles and wheel bores. QT won't buy into it but I might be able to get MR. Chips to.I wouldn't know why they wouldn't listen to me neither one of them has beaten me in a race in the last 14 months. LOL

Oh freaky you smarty pants little devil you. Its good to have you back. There has been nobody to attempt to shut me up. Not that you did in the past or have a chance now. Still good to see you on the board. Yes CA glue in the wheel bores is what I use now. Surprizingly enough.... its still faster than you.
