New to the site and thought Id say hello!
Wanted to learn more after completing our last Pack race and not performing as well as we hoped (a learning year). We finished 2nd in our rank and at the pack level we maybe were in the top six? Not sure...lost focus as i was taking pictures at the finish line. The prior year we took the pack and did well at districts. Only win is that we smashed the field with our All comers entry and had a track record. This all-comers entry beat our prior year time as well (by 2/100) so a very fast car but no trophy though my scout helped his sis with this one too.
After discovering this site and 5kids i determined our issue was with tuning. We have a standard wheelbase and COM of .8" tuned to 2" maybe? Not exactly sure as i realized i was measuring over 36inches not the full 48. My son said he saw it moving as it made its way down the 27.8ft ( 333 inch) wooden track. So probably should have been at 5" with this wheebase.
Anyway I have a SB extreme coming to try canted drills vs bent axels...hope this helps. Live and learn was our lesson this year.
One question.. what do you think is better for alignment..using the SBE or using a drill fence with stops and a table that can be angled to 3 degrees?
