How do I tighten axle holes?

My axle holes are too loose for my axles and just don't hold them snug enough.

Is there any way to make them tighter with fillers or glue or something?

Thanks

a little elmers glue on a tooth pick or water in the hole
Elmer's glue with a toothpick, and he would have to re drill the holes, correct?

I would imagine if you were sparing with the glue that it would just add some bulk to the inner bore. I don't think he means to leave the toothpick in there.

Now, if you wanna fill a hole, my preferred method is a toothpick epoxied into the hole and then sanded flat and re-drilled.

I either use water ( and a pin or something similar to get it in the axle hole) or if that does not work, I put a drop of glue in the relief hole on the bottom of the car. Its a hole I drill for each axle from the bottom of the car (which would be perpendicular to the axle hole) to let air escape when I'm inserting the axles.

Interesting concept. I've heard of drilling holes to insert glue, but not so much for the purpose of escaping air.

Does letting air escape give you an easier time with insertion?

Got it. I misunderstood what he meant. Makes sense, thanks.

This is where I got the idea from:

http://www.pinewoodderbyonline.com/post/beefing-up-the-axle-hole-wca-6701318?highlight=air&trail=30

At that time, I was brand new and just starting building my cars that way. I just assumed it was common practice by a fair number of people here. It was a while ago and many many cars ago, so I do not remember ever pushing an axle into a hole without one drilled from the bottom. I might try though on my next car, but right now, I have a number of bodies alreay drilled. Funny thing though, that thread was about tightening lose axle holes...

I've redrilled one car over 15 times. (for testing) You buy a wood dowel lets say its 5/32, you drill a hair bigger I use epoxy to glue it in.

Notes: I only drill the depth of the axle hole, and always make sure that when you redrill it's getting all wood otherwise epoxy is very slippery!
