how many passes on oil?

How many passes do you feel comfortable with on oil before speed falls off?

My personal theory on oil is that it's just the thinnest film that matters, so I'm not really concerned about oil running out. If I reprep a car, it's because I want to make sure I have good layer of wax in the bores and silicone on the axles, and that there's no accumulated gunk in the bores, and that the gaps and alignment are where they ought to be. Otherwise, the car can run 10-20-30 runs...whatever.
