I got my clock cleaned at Nationals.

I sent in my first Pro BASX car at Nationals with high expectations and watched as just about everyone beat it. By running in the 2nd heat I can say I was running in the top 10. Although just long enough until the third heat was run. It was a humbling experience which is always a good lesson to learn again and again. The upside was my car ran consistent 2.94xx's. And I now have figured out at least 2 things that I did wrong with the car. One was a mistake that I don't think I have ever made but just overlooked due to trying to get all the new things exactly right. Now I am looking forward to getting my car back and working on it for next months race.

Well at least now we have a good starting point and we will be faster at the next race. Hurricrane, I think it is easier to be faster as a rookie now because everyone on this board is extremely helpful and encouraging to the newbies. You guys are true ambassadors to the sport.

For having as much wiggle as it did, I'm surprised it ran that quickly.

That car is going to be really fast when you straighten it out! When my Street Stock wiggled that bad (for some reason, it didn't like the red lane), I think it ran 40 flat. Before it started fishtailing on the last run it ran 26s. I mean, it's hard to measure how much fishtailing, in each case, is slowing you down, but it's something to consider.

I saw your car up close and it also looks very well made.

I learned a lot from this race and looking forward to getting my car back to make the changes and hopefully make it faster. I am going to start working on the next car and will try the new Rocket Fuel oil with that one. Seems like everyone likes it so far. Are you running it? You car was running in the low .93s and looked good.

Oh, that was the "Anya" car. I hadn't ever track tuned any of mine, but I got a chance to do it there. I couldn't get my other BASX to run faster than .941. Something is wrong there. But yes, all of my cars are running the Rocket Fuel now. My Street Stock seemed to be dialed in pretty close with 3" of steer (thanks again Bulldog) until something happened to make it fishtail the last run. But the ANYA car impressed me! I tuned it up and it ran 2.926 after the race with some adjustments.

Also, maybe those who has done a lot of track tuning can chime in here, but I was pretty intense with my track tuning, running it several times in a short period of time, and I think the friction warmed up the oil at least enough to make a difference. When I would wait a while, it would run 26. When I would run it in rapid succession, it would run about 3 or 4 thousandths slower.

Look at it this way: A clean clock runs better than a dirty one. Getting your butt whooped is an excellent experience if you view it as a learning experience. As long as you come away with some ideas of what to do better next time, you've won your personal race.

That's why you have to race yourself. As long as you keep improving then it's a victory for you and you'll find yourself at the front soon enough. It may not be a linear progression so don't get discouraged when you have a setback.

Oh don't worry guys, I am not going anywhere. That is the fun thing about this sport is finding ways to go faster. I am already looking forward to getting my car back and I have about 4-6 things to do differently. I placed another order with John yesterday for more parts and extra goodies. I cut 3 new bodies this morning and plan on sending two or three cars in next month. A funny side story and speaks to my Texan roots is that I was telling my wife that I thought I might have a top ten car. After the race she asked about what happened to my "top ten" car. I said it was a top ten car but it was just at the wrong end of the list.
