IMPORTANT INFO TO ALL PROXY RACERS

AS OF LATE I'M NO CONTENDER, SO JUST CLICK THE BACK ARROW IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER IF YOU'D LIKE. BUT IN TALKING WITH THE DADDIO, WE DISCUSSED SOME VERY CRUCIAL YET SIMPLE WAYS THAT WE CAN ALL SPEED OUR CARS UP.
1. BUILD THE CAR SO THAT WHEN IT GETS STAGED, IT CAN BE SET UP ON THE TRACK DEAD SQUARE AND CENTER. FOR EVEN THE BEST OF STAGERS AND INSTRUCTIONS, IT IS SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REPRODUCE THE SAME STAGING RESULT THAT WE RACERS GET WHEN WE TEST AND TUNE. BUILDING A CAR THAT IS VERY PICKY ON THE STAGING BLOCK IS GOING TO DRIVE YOU BANANNAS WHEN IT RUNS .010 SLOWER THAN IT DID WHEN WHEN YOU TUNED IT.
2. DON'T TRY AND OUTBUILD YOURSELF. KEEP IT SIMPLE. READ AROUND THIS FORUM, WATCH THE DVD AND THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON THAT YOUR BUILDS SHOULDN'T BE GREAT!! THE SIMPLIEST OF ALL BUILDS CAN AND HAVE HAD SUCCESS AGAINST THE BEST!!
3. THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. SHIPPING..I AM THE WORLDS WORST AT GETTING CAUGHT UP IN TRYING TO HURRY UP AND GET MY CARS READY TO RACE AND AM LEFT WITH VERY LITTLE TIME TO PACK MY CARS PROPERLY. WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS THAT WE ARE ALL AWARE OF, IT'S NOT ALWAYS THE SERVICE YOU CHOOSE TO SHIP YOUR CARS WITH THAT CAUSES DAMAGE TO YOUR CARS. I MYSELF HAVE PACKED CARS AND THEN TURNED AROUND AND UNPACKED THEM AND RUN THEM RIGHT BACK DOWN THE TRACK AND THEY HAVE ALREADY CHANGED.
WITH ALL THE NEW CONTAINERS DADDIO HAS CREATED..FROM TIME TO TIME, THINGS WILL NOT GO RIGHT IN SHIPPING. DON'T BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOUR CARS ARE A BIT SLOWER WHEN THEY GET TO THE TRACK. EVEN IF THEY MAKE IT THERE UNSCAVED..CHANCES ARE THEY WILL BE A TICK SLOWER. THERE ARE TOO MANY FACTORS THAT COME INTO PLAY AND NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRY, WE CANNOT COMPLETLY RECREATE THEM.(DIRTY AIR..DIRTYAIR..DIRTY AIR!!)
ENJOY THIS MONTH OFF..STEP BACK FROM ALL OF THIS AND CATCH YOUR BREATH. BECAUSE FROM HERE ON OUT IT IS GOING TO BE A BATTLE!! TAKE CARE MY FRIENDS!!

It was great advise Sparky! Even after 3 years of proxy racing I'm still learning. I've spent a lot of time over the years prepping wheels. But in contrast I usually spend about 1 hour routing, drilling and shaping a new body. Until recently I would slap a new build together and run it down my tuning board. Then the car would hit the track for a final steering tune and I would be done. If it wasn't to my liking it would have to be the preps fault obviously

Great info for all proxy racers!!!! And even better for the people on here that don't know what to do to get the car centered on the track or how to safely ship a car all you have to do here is ask.(or search)
I often feel bad for the guys that spend hours, days, or even months on their cars to get all jacked up by the first drop from a mail delivery service. Take this advise and USE it!! Thx DG.
 
Reading this makes me wonder, are all proxy cars staged centered and squared or are they staged similar to how the person staging the car stages his own car for that particular class? Having been fortunate enough to attend a couple races live I assumed they were being staged in a similar fashion if no particular staging instructions were sent with the car, will I be safe still assuming that or should I change how I am tuning my cars at home? Again, another example of the great sportsmanship shown in this series!
 
Little Man, if no staging instructions are sent I would assume all cars are staged centered rear and front. What Paul is saying is that it is much easier for stager if a car is set-up this way from the beginning. I can only imagine what Quicktime and the others went through trying to stage 200+ cars at the nationals. I am sure every person staging cars is trying to stage them in the way the racer has instructed, but it has to be difficult, especially if the staging instructions are complicated. So the more simple you make your staging, the better results you will have… unless of course you are going to go live and stage your own cars. With the NPWDRL rules allowing any distance between the front wheels you should be able to adjust your lifted wheel so the front wheels are centered. Some racers may push their lifted wheel as close to the rail as they can to try and eliminate any additional wobble if the dfw comes off the rail at the transition…. I think that works for some if you can tune on the race track. For me, being mostly a proxy racer, I make sure my car never leaves the rail. My lifted wheel/peg only helps me in the stop section. Regarding the rears, I personally always set-up my cars so the rears are centered. My cars always run better with the rears centered anyway.
 
After my own testng, I stage all my cars (except for SR) with the DFW 1/64th from the edge, i.e. almost touching. I make all my cars with straight edges on each side and ask the stager to make sure that after setting the DFW, make sure that each side of the car is absolutely parallel to the track. From what I have observed, most of the elite do the same. But that is only my observation, possibly I am wrong.
 
Opa that is pretty much what I have been shooting for. All of my cars seem to do best with the rears centered and the DFW tight to the rail. It seemed to be the most used method among the pros when I attended my first race so that is how I assumed they were staging mine as well. Looks like I need to put down my wrenches and pkck up some polish pretty soon.
