Since I'm new here, yesterday was my first livestream and it was great to watch and chat with everyone.

Opa mentioned that there there were a lot of great questions answered in the chat that should really be posted on the forum. So, I'm taking up the challenge and below is all the tidbits of knowledge that I saw posted in the chat.

NOTE: I am a total newbie and none of these ideas are mine; I'm just gathering what other people posted. I'm not taking credit for anyone else's wisdom. (I know nothing.)

Here's what I captured:

Ngyoung started with stock parts his first time in NPWDRL. Nothing wrong with starting with the basics your first time.
Opa proved part of the usefulness of oil. His cars raced with no re-prep from last month and did awesome again. Confirmed by ODD, too.
Monokote does not make the car faster than alternatives. Use whatever is preferred on top or use sharpies like Kinser.
It’s believed that most racers have gone away from tungsten wheel weights because they are too heavy and cause problems with COM.
Most have gone back to John’s lead ones. One person cuts off the top 1/3 of John’s and re-glues them to the bottom. Opa’s opinion is that SR may be the best class for tungsten wheel weights, but his best car does not have tungsten.
Kinder polishes his wheel bores with the crushed dreams of competitors and lubricates his axles with their tears
When re-prepping wheels/axles, leave wax alone until a car slows down. Only re-dress the axles. The point of wax is to build up as a barrier. Don’t keep striping and starting again.
John worked with one of the new guys who was live at the race. Demonstrated that bending axles is bad--again.
Opa’s days in SSAM are over. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
Although the bodies in eliminator and ultimate seem like they should work in BASX, they’ve bombed when tried by the veterans. One opinion is that it’s air drag and a lot less steer in elim/unlim.
Please someone let me know if I captured something wrong; I don't want to be spreading wrong suggestions.

If I’ve revealed anyone proprietary info that they do not want on the forum, please PM me and I’ll edit to remove that.

Thanks to all for sharing your wisdom in the chat and on the forum.

I would comment on this one... just to clarify, I don't think this means not to re-prep over the top of wax already there, just don't strip unless you need too.

His cars raced with no re-prep from last month and did awesome again. Confirmed by ODD, too. And they will all race again at Mid America with no new prep. But only because I don't have any April time for any kind of prep.
Monokote does not make the car faster than alternatives. Use whatever is preferred on top or use sharpies like Kinser. MK is faster than any kind of a wood top/bottom. IMO, Kinzer would be even faster if he used MK with no wood on top or bottom. His secret is wheel and axle prep. KINZER, LET ME SEND YOU ONE OF MY BODIES, AND YOU INSTALL YOUR BEST AXLES AND WHEELS. I BET IT WOULD BEAT THE YOUR CAR THE WHEELS CAME FROM.
It’s believed that most racers have gone away from tungsten wheel weights because they are too heavy and cause problems with COM. IMHO, wheel weights are good, I only think that Tungsten is too heavy. DD4H's lead ones, or steel washers do work well.
Most have gone back to John’s lead ones. Are you of the opinion that your car bodies are superior to mine? That's okay, a man's entitled to his opinion. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

At one time, I actually considered something like that, which is sending someone (a pro) my car and some $$$, fully prepped to the best of my ability, and having them re-prep it without moving weight, re-polishing the bores, or re-polishing the axles. My thought was you could remove the wax, and reprep bores / axles, just to see if my build was worth anything. In the end, I do not know what I would learn from it. If it was faster, I would want to know why, which is the secret I would not be told. Even if told, there is something to be said about duplicating someone else's process, knowing that it is not as easy as it sounds. Kinser could tell me everything he does and I doubt I could duplicate it anyway.

Now I'm just rambling - I should have thrown some discussion about my favorite color. But, you two have an interesting experiment there.

B Regal, at least it would tell you if prep or something else is your key to speed. If the car was no faster then you need to examine your car's setup, if the car picked up then you need to work on your prep. That seems like it would be a great thing to know, so you can focus on the weak spot in your program.

Delete #6. That was supposed to be the best kept secret in league racing.
