Interesting!

That was a cool read

Congrats on getting interviewed for the article! So cool.

Anyone know what this means?
Roller also formats the racing software to weed out the cars the fathers make versus the cars the scouts make. He uses a program that determines a winner through a point system that relies on heats and measures how cars perform against one another.

“If you go strictly on speed, the cars from the teams, if you will, that have more skill will mop the floor every time,” Roller said.

What points system relies on heats, but doesn't reward the first cars across the finish line? And who should win if not the fastest cars?

Very cool article. Nice to see the hobby get coverage. This raised my eyebrows, though:

“I’d say there are guys spending $300 to $400 a month, plus an extra $100 in shipping, just racing Pinewood Derby cars,” Law said. “I’ve seen a lot of divorces. There could have been other reasons, too, but a lot of it has to do with people that can’t race anymore because they’re spending too much money. It’s an addicting thing to try to get faster and faster.”

Wow. Ouch. Maybe we should start a 12-step.

Ya, definitely an over-exaggeration! If you're getting a divorce because of your PWD spending, then you were in a fragile relationship due to many other issues. Don't blame Pinewood Derby.

Heh, well, I don't know if my wife would leave me for anything short of infidelity, but if I was spending 300-400 bucks a month on a hobby, I guarantee you that we would not be a happy household.

It's pretty typical that details get distorted when a writer interviews someone like this. Always makes me not exactly trust what I read in the paper that I don't know about myself. Good pub for John though, that's nice ! Way to go Scott !!!

Quadad is right with his assessment with some of the information in the article/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif but it really doesn't matter.... very good press for John. I also didn't mention the win over Joel.... either Joel mentioned that or John or Greg or he read it somewhere in one of the posts here...

My wife bought a NY Times paper yesterday.... and yes! it is true! DD4H is is the NY Times!
