Hey folks,

So I'm writing up an introduction to rail-riding for the uninitiated (primarily, dads in our pack), and I thought I'd ask for some opinions on it.

You can view it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1af1Tmr8y0WzMxrzPsBWXzxZTEw7Cxs9PTcwsr5EMrRM/edit?usp=sharing

I'd like feedback on:

- Correctness of the information
- Clarity of my explanations
- Quality of writing
- Usefulness of diagrams

This is just an intro, and does not go into actual construction techniques. I plan to write that up at a later date. Feel free to leave feedback on this thread, or using the GDocs comments.

Very nicely done. I did see the "wheel" spelled incorrectly towards the end of the document.

My only comment (and its minor): I no longer narrow the front ends of my cars (for the BASX and SS classes). This is due to the bend I put in the FDW (4 to 6 degrees). What I was finding is that the NDRW was riding to close to the rail. For the most part, the bend in the axle for the FDW is enough to keep the rear centered. May want to add a caveat with the suggestion of narrowing.

You may also want to discuss why a negative cant would not work on the FDW, as it could be interpreted that a negative cant and a narrowed front end would yield the same speed gains as a un-narrowed front end with a positive cant. With a positive cant, the FDW "rolls" over joints and imperfections in the track as opposed to sliding over them (with the possibility of snagging on them).

Thanks for the feedback!

BRR: I added some verbiage related to the point you raised.

BR: I tried to clean up the prose on that sentence. Sometimes I get a little too off-the-cuff.
