I feel like Im doing something wrong while using 3 scales to check balance and weight distribution. I’ve leveled my scales, but do I have to find the middle of the rear scales to do this accurately?
It really depends on how accurate your scales are around the perimeter. I agree, they do not need to be centered on the scale, but they should be centered BETWEEN the scales.
Place the two scales for the rear next to each other. Find the midline of the car. Place that mid line on the centerline between the two scales. Hopefully this makes sense.
When I got my new scales, I checked all four corners of each scale along with the middle using 3 different calibration weights. I found them to be very accurate AND consistent in all of the different locations.
You can always mark the scales for wheel location once you have a set up. Then in the future, you should be weighing your cars in the same place.
Try a couple pieces of painters tape on the rear scales. This keeps them from rolling and allows you to use the same location for all of your cars. My scales zero out just fine with the tape left in place. I don't use tape for the DFW because I build different w/b cars and that wheel location varies because of it.
