Well it's been a several years since I checked this forum for the latest information available on wheels and axle prep. I've been running our church Awana club workshops for years and have a pretty good handle on how to make a competitive car. Just wondering what the current pros are doing to their wheels and axles. We can run either graphite or oil but cannot lighten the wheels. Appreciate any information on the current methods, especially for oil.

We race Awana for the past 11 years with about 30+ Awana builds in our immediate family.
Our rules are very similar for the clubbers, no lightening of the wheel. We pick the best wheels that we have. We true up all surfaces that touch the track and cone both hubs. Polish the bores and hubs. Treat bores with an automotive sealant.

Note-The newer Awana wheels came out about 4-5 yrs ago and have smaller bore sizes. I'm certain that all new kits have the newer wheels and axles.

On the axles we mimick an aftermarket axle and groove it. We cone the backside of the head. We put a K-house slot on the axle head for tuning. We polish them up to a high finish being careful not to take off too much material.

Note-The newer Awana axles are not good quality. If you have older ones, run them.

We mist axles with Jig-a-loo silicone spray. Add a small drip of derby oil and assemble on the car.

Hope that helps!
