Ran this weekend and got second place. The car that won beat me at the very end of the track (32ft). It had 1.4s and i had 1.0s. What if i run two 1 grams and one 1.4 or reverse it the other way around? Would that help or will i be better off just running all 1.4S? still trying to get it right for the state race coming up.

you would be better off with the lighter wheels all around, but you need to be careful, as the really light wheels have a tendancy to deform if you run them flat. thats why most of us that use them turn them around and run them canted with the normally outside edge on the inside, then you cant get a flat spot.
i may be mistaken , but running the super light weight wide wheels flat is not the fastest way down the track. they were running 1.4's and had a thicker tred than your 1.0's

Hey bump...IMO the weight of your wheels is not why you took second. The lighter the wheels the sooner/faster your car will move when the pin drops. You can never tell what someone else did to their car...the alignment may have been more accurate, they may have had a more aggressive COM. There really is a lot going on and what do your rules require? Need more info. However, I have seen a 1 gram wheel get out of round pretty easily...they are delicate & thin. So check and mank sure your wheels are true.
Good luck...

Ok. we had 2.5 cant on the back and used the block for drilling. His car just passed us at the last 2 feet of track. My car beat him down the hill but lost speed at the end or his got faster at the end. Thanks for the help! any ideas are helpful.

Thanks chief going to check the wheels. I am running 9/16 com and the rules are bsa must remain on the outside of the tire and exstended wheel base is allowed.Dry lub. only. Says nothing about canting and axels can be grooved. Might try to turn them around have not ever done that!

Be cautious turning your wheels around that is tricky if you have never done that...also I think most guys use washers when they do that, (not for positive but I think) so if the rules say no washers then thats out...

if you do flip them around you must use a spacer, John has them just for that application. knowing that they were running the BSA out, here is what probably happened. on the hill the rpm's kept the wheels spinning true, as the car slowed down towards the end of the run the centrifugal force lessoned and allowed the wheels to flatten out. being that they were canted, all the weight of the car was resting on a very small contact spot. as soon as it started to flatten out it was over.

You can build up a little cone around the back axle, using dolphin glaze body filler. It acts just like a washer and keeps the wheels away from the body. You need to paint them though.

The lighter wheels could have had an effect also. It's like when you put a lighten flywheel in a car the motor will rev faster,(accelerate) but when you take your foot off the gas the lighten flywheel will not keep the momentum and therefore decelerate faster. Just a thought I am not a engineer so size and speed relative to these cars it could be nothing.

True also, I think...

Thanks for the information guys! Ever little bit is a help. Going to try some of the ideas and see what happens. The next race is at the end of march so keep the information coming might try all the above
