Another newby question... I am getting the DD4H Oil Secrets DVD, but I have been hearing of so many different products that I am confusticated to no end.

dazed

Blue Thunder

Blue Dupont

Jigaloo

Legend

Liquid Glass

Spray on this and spray on that....

What is all that stuff and does it take the place of the krytox secret mix?

Thanks!

Take a deep breath...wait for the video, watch the video...take notes and then breath again and then start your build and then search the forum, then breath again, and then...NO more and then...Just kidding...but the video will clear up a lot for you!! Oh ya and good luck!!

Those are all different wheel or axle prep products that people use before the krytox secret mix oil. Hope that helps a little till the DVD gets there.

Ok, watched the Oil Secrets Video. According to the "Bad" and "Good" list of axle sprays portrayed, I need to simply use my case of Jig-A-Loo for squeeky hinges.....

One question though. The video is now two years old. In the fast paced and changing World of Pinewood Derby, is it still all current?

Thanks

I think the jig is on the bad list because if not allowed to dry completley it will damage your wheels. Its hard to recomend something to the masses that can potentially do damage. Some people will not understand the reason to let it dry completley, install the axles too soon and blame john for their mistake. Give the jig ample time to dry and it works great.

Most racers use Jigaloo. Just make sure you wait at least 15 min for the solvents in it to evaqporate or it will melt your wheels. Other than that the DVD is the process that most of us use.

Ok, understood. From what I have seen, the preferred method of use is to spray it into a container and then dip the axels and shake them off. Since Jig-A-Loo is an endangered substance, I would plan to apply it to several set of axels at once. Is there any idea of a time frame where you should re-apply? Is there any prep (91% alcohol bath?) before re-application?

Thanks

The jigga will evaporate very quick. I use the spray and shake method. I don't let my sprayed axles sit for more than 30min. To much possibility of dust or a fiber getting on them if you wait to long. When you re prep you need to clean both the wheel and axle. I use alcohol on both. Make sure they are spotless! No residue, dust, or fibers.
