what kind do you guys use?looking in the wheel bore i cant really see much havent polished them yet but they already look kinda shinny..are my eyes bad or do i need better magnifying glass..what am i looking for down in there?

I use a jewelers loop (60x I think....) that I got on amazon for cheap....I know some people have these microscopes as well that they can use to look at the axel and wheel bore finishes....

I use it when I first get a set of wheels to see if there is any residual rubbish, wheel bore material stuck in there before I throw a quetip stem in...I clean it out with a fuzzy pipe cleaner if there is rubbish in there. Then I polish the bores. Once the polishing is done I use the loop to look in the bores to see if its smooth and shiny, if there any residual polish that needs to be buffed out, and any scratches or defects that I might have caused during the polish process.....if nothing then I let the bore polish cure, and the last time I use the loop on the wheel is right before installing the wheels and axels together....ill make one last blow out of the bore and use the loop to make sure there is absolutely no dust or particles that I can see then I put them together.

On the axel side, I use it similarly to look at my axels after the polishing process...if there are any burrs or scratches or defects, if I can polish them out great (without shrinking the axel diameter too much) or I may need to just use a new axel. Once the polish is all done, then I use the loop before I spray JIG to make sure its free of dust and lint and junk and then right before installing it and the wheel together, one last look to make sure no lint or dust before oiling and installing.

I think this is pretty much standard for the most part with all racers....its just a matter of if you use a loop or a microscope, or those desk top magnifying lenses etc....having one with a light source is also really nice and helpful as well!

Honestly, I have never looked at my wheel bores. I polish them prep them and I'm good to go. If you're looking in the bores, most likely you're checking for imperfections or micro scratches. John sells a jewelers loupe that's good for this.

i bought a magnifying glass at harbor frieght with a 20x and 30 x lenses..is a magnifying glass a magnifying glass or are there different grades

well most magnifying glasses are pretty cheap so i guess they are all the same..i just cant see much in that wheel bore..so i guess i will do like kinser polish them and roll with it

I have a couple of magnifying glasses and I could never see much with them. I do use the loupe for checking axles after polishing, but I haven't polished axles for a long time. I still use the same axles from a couple of years ago.
