Mixed bag of rules for Box Stock

I was actually surprised on the low turn out. I'm thinking the more the merrier! I've already proved that salmon can swim down stream just like they do going up! Lol! So the more competition in front of me, the more determined I get to figure it out & climb the ladder. Like Bulldog says "Look out, I'm come'n for ya" Cram & Bulldog! It might be a slow climb but,
I'm come'n for ya!

Well - I planned to race until I started working with the axles and decided -- they really suck. I plan to race BoxStock next time around when I have more time to focus on getting a set of axles sanded and ready to race....

Bulldog, you shouldn't have taken any crap from running that class. Joel had said before that anyone was welcome to try it and see how they do. But like you said, it's only the fastest new guy that is eligible to win the prize. I was planning on trying it once myself.
I may throw my hat in the ring here also. I'll have to see how much time I've got to get one of these together before the next event.

I sent Veterans Freedom a message on the other board, as well as Joel, that since I won the BASX wheels the last time, just pass them onto the next rookie if I win in March. If we really want to accomplish what that is meant to accomplish, which is to grow the list, then we want new wheels in as many hands as possible. In fact, I wonder if there should be a restriction on winning them two months in a row or more than once every three months. That would encourage more new people to enter into Box Stock.

No. Take a look at the pic of the top 4 in Box Stock and you see Gee fenders.

Think of this class like a typical scout class. Built by scouts and their dads, who don't spend extra money on turned wheels.

Personally, I'd like the inclusion of stock MV wheels, as that is the box stock kit we're using in our Trail Life troop. (But I still have a tube of BSA wheels, and the wheels used in the first version of the car in my avatar [straight outta the tube, but painted spokes and letters])

That made me think: If they don't spend extra money on turned wheels, is it reasonable to think they probably wouldn't be spending it on $25+ Gee fenders as well? Because if you ARE going to spend 25 bucks on something to make your car faster, there are several other areas that will give you a lot more bang for the buck than fenders, correct?

MANY scout Dad's will buy wheels, axles, fender and so on. The Box Stock class is mostly a wheel and weight restriction. Someone that knows what they are doing can make a untouched scout wheel faster than some who doesn't know what they are doing with light weight machined wheels. The class is designed to try not and overwhelm any one. Fendes, no fenders it does not matter, getting someone started in league racing is the main purpose of this class. Once they get their feet wet well than we have classes for their lightened wheels.

I was really surprised at how well the stock wheels and axles ran. I ran #5 molds in the back and I had an uneven spot inside the head of my steering axle that made it tick. Didn't have time to fix it. Didn't seem to matter.

An uneven spot in an axle won't tick. That's a nick in the wheel.

Oh. Ok. Good to know. It didn't tick when the wheel would move inward toward the body but a nick in the wheel makes sense in that case because I grooved the axles and it probably moved over the groove when it moved inward. Would that slow me down much? It's probably pretty minimal because I didn't see it but I was in a hurry to get that car off the assembly line. That was my steering axle.

For me if we (grandson) decide to send car in. It will all be from the box just so he knows what it takes. To try and build a fast car. Using what comes in the box.
