Monokote

You guys that use Monokote have you or do you try and wrap around the sides?

I've just used the peel and stick trim. Once I wrapped from the bottom up the sides then added a second piece on top. It took a lot of fine trimming with and exacto knife to get the seems to look right. The next time I just put it on the top and added small tabs over the axles holes for a make shift slide guide. If I tried to wrap from the top down, the slope at the nose would create a seem or wrinkle right over the axle.

Depends on the car design, but yes, when the car design allows, I'll wrap around the sides. I typically use the trim monokote, start at the top, then once the top is set, pull down on over the side but not underneath yet. Then I'll make a couple relief cuts in the monokote and then finish pulling it underneath.

I prefer to use the trim monokote - the kind you don't have to heat. But I've been experimenting with the iron on kind. And I still suck at it.

Always, especially on BSA cars where washers are not allowed. But instead, you can paint Teflon finger nail polish around the axle holes. On SP and Elim, I do so on DFWs.

I did on my last car at Nationals. I had the trim monokote on top and then added a water slide decal and the edges were a little rough and was worried about it curling so I sprayed a few layers of clear coat on top and it worked out fine for me.

OPA, same a NG, I will spray clearcoat over monokote if I put the waterslide decals on it.
