My build

Lookin' sharp there!

Were you trying to use the iron-on Monokote or their trim sheets? The iron-on stuff is tricky to use and tough to fit around the fenders. I found it works better if you have a cover on the iron. A washcloth and a clothes iron will work if you don't want to spring for the special iron and cover. I prefer the trim sheets though. Much easier to put on, like a decal. No iron needed.

I use a gage pin that fits just snug in the axle hole and a short length of Delrin rod, drilled to fit the gage pin and turned to fit the hole in the shield, to mount the shields.
,
Yes, I purchased the monokote that requires heat. I think it just requires some practice so I'll give it a shot again. I'm trying it on my BASX car so at least I won't have to work it around the fenders.

Thanks for the tip on the air shields- I'll give that a shot also

That's a great idea...I am going to have to try that (assuming I can figure out how to get the delrin the right size). Currently, I just run some masking tape around the air shield until it fits snug inside a wheel, then mount the wheel using a junk axle and glue the shield in place. After the glue dries, remove the wheel and tape.

You could always substitute a wooden dowel for the Delrin and sand it down while chucked in a drill?

Drilling the center hole might be a little tricky without a lathe or at least a drill press though.

first of all...great build thread reecedad, I appreciate you taking the time to post it.

drilling the center hole is certainly tricky, I use my drill press and chuck a bit upside down (very gently), then using a drill press vice, clamp the bit so it is centered and release the bit from the chuck. Then I chuck the material I want to drill. The material you want to drill spins and the drill bit remains stationary. Works fine on teflon, never tried it on wood.

Thanks IBM, I've enjoyed your responses and appreciate that sharing with us your knowledge.

Okay- since the wife and boys dragged me down to Myrtle Beach I won't be able to post any more pictures until next week so I dug thru my phone and found a picture of my track to share. After my addiction to these little cars, my wife made it clear to me that I am not allowed to set my track up at the home (she didn't want the track going thru the foyer, breakfast nook and family room) so I had to set it up near a wall in a warehouse area at my office.

Well it's officially over. I was able to return from vacation this week and finish both my box stock and BASX cars. Unfortunately my BASX car came off the track testing it Wednesday so I took all my pieces and put them on another car so I could compete this weekend at a race here in Ohio.

You left Myrtle Beach a few days too early. I heard Aliens are coming to knock out the Sun this coming Tuesday.

Looking good! Can't wait to here how you guys do in your race

I took my car in person this evening to the test and tune session. It didn't take me long to understand I still have a lot to learn. I'm finding there is a big difference between beating some Cub scouts and competing at a higher level.

I'm sure! I haven't made that jump yet but I'm sure it will be humbling. I guess I don't know which race you are in this weekend?
