My Least favorite rule and why

Well my least favorite rule actually is a combination. To me 2 rules that make a build much more difficult for someone who is just doing a quick build.

The use of preshaped bodies is not allowed combined with the axles must be mounted parallel to the track surface and tilted or canted axles that cause the car to run on the edge of the wheels are not allowed. Blah Blah Blah...... The rules just drone on from there in what you can and can't do. Years past we could use pre-shaped bodies and I would guess for many of those bodies it was easier to have flat wheels. So if you want flat wheels allow bodies with pre-drilled holes that at least have a chance to have the wheels flat on the track.

As said over and over if you use the slots getting the wheels flat can be a challenge. So why bother with that rule. The people who do the research put the time into it are still pretty much going to dominate. And if you really enforce the rules there is a lot of race day drama fixing the cars. Our new stricter rules were not enforced at all and visually by my inspection easily more than half of the cars would have obviously failed. Reality is it was probably more.

There were a lot of wheels on the edge. So either it is too hard to get them flat using the slots or the execution failed in getting the canted wheels to translate to speed. Either way that rule was a total fail.

For us the rules were not published until a couple weeks after kits went out. Rules sent by email on the 11th for the race on the 26th. So on the 11th our pre-drilled plug and play block was retired without ever being used and we started over from scratch. Provide the rules with the kit please, not a couple weeks later.

In the end I still think less rules are much easier for everyone. The people that put in the time still do the best and it is much easier for everyone else. And if someone does not have access to all the tools and resources they can at least be closer to the top without putting out a lot of cash for those tools.

The worst thing about a strict rule race is when they are not enforced.

2nd that. Nothing worse than thundering on about all the rules only to ignore them come race day.
