We entered three cars recently in my son's pinewood derby. One for my son to race and two for the open unlimited class. The Blue Punisher was our first ever build. My son got the kit from the scout leader and he went to town and picked out the color and helped as much as he could with sanding, decals and wheels/tires prep and install (I didn't let him do any cutting with the jig saw). The Black punisher with the red windshield has modified wheels and axles and we weren't going to run it, but we decided at the last minute that we wanted to see how well it would do. The Black & Silver car was my car from when I was a scout 30years ago and I wanted to see if it still had its speed (It took me to regionals as a scout). The purple car was going to be raced but broke when the wheels/axles were being installed. /images/boards/smilies/confused.gif

And the results were:

Blue Punisher took 1st in age group and Grand Champion over all
Black Punisher took 1st in open unlimited class
Black/silver 30 year old car took 3rd in open unlimited class

This is funny, I raced my son the first year with my car from 30years ago also. Back then we had solid axles and mag wheels, and silicone spray, ahh the memory of my first place win. I raced my son at the end of the pack race and got smoked by him, he thought that was cool. We took fourth overall that year in pack.

Rocket Car --- How cool is that to run a car from way back with your boy ... Now His win only makes the feeling stronger and who knows ... Maybe dad will make a come back??

Thanks for the kind words from everyone.

It was funny, my Dad was there watching my son race and he was proud that the car he built for me 30 years ago still had its speed and won third in the open class. We challenged each other for the next time there is a race that we are going to each build a car to see who has the best building skills. It will be 3 generations racing for the bragging rights (my son, me and my Dad). It will probably be my Dad who wins, he is one heck of a craftsman. He built me the Semi pictured for x-mas this year. /images/boards/smilies/eek.gif Its a foot tall and about 3 1/2 feet long.
