I have a built a car with the ndfw only raised by a very small amount. Its really only raised by the amount of positive cant on the dfw. So its very slight and not at all noticeable.
How effective do you think this will be?
For our later district races where you can run 3 wheelers should I just bend the axle of the ndfw up to increase its distance off the track? Or would bending a ndfw up cause any problems?

I've had that trouble before too. Some rules require the 4 wheels touch so you try to get the ndfw wheel to barely not touch. As you have found out trying to get all four wheels to touch can be tricky. I'm like you Get it close and then use the bent axle to raise it slightly. The more the toe on that ndfw though can cause some wind drag. Slight toe in is better than toe out.

I remember they had those crazy 4 wheel touch rules and then then didn't even check the cars for that. Go figure. Another alternative is to build 2 identical cars one with 3 wheel touching and one with 4 wheel touching.

How high should the raised wheel be? Or will a very slight amount be okay or slow the car down.

Just as long it doesn't touch. You can test by using a wheel that is slightly smaller in diameter like John's lathed wheels. I've had a car that the wheel barely touched by sight and it still had speed like a 3 wheeler. Generally if doesn't touch on the straight it won't touch on the curve of the incline. I believe everyone drills the NDRW at 1/32 above the hole on the DFW side. That never touches unless the back holes are not even.
