Anyone have an old super stock type... 1-gram BSA wheel to sell ... It can be unusable
I need something with a super thin tread to show some judges at the next race ...
Thinking if someone beats us from the pin to the bottom they have lighter wheels than us & if we are at 2g with v.3's ??? I want something to show the judges
Thanks

Good luck on that. We did the same thing at our race two years ago. They said they did not want to disappoint any of the kids. So they let them run as is. Rules stated no thin tires or machined tires. Everybody had stock wheels but those three. They got first thru third. Might get there early to show them a 1 gram wheel. Most of the judges have no idea about them. Good luck!! Let us know how it goes.

If they aren't enforcing the rule either use 1 gram wheels yourself or try and beat 1 gram wheels with 2 gram wheels. Im not a big fan of people complaining and labeling others as cheaters. Other option would be try to just get the rules changed to clarify the rule and make it enforceable.

Thanks for the input speed... That could happen. Last year our state went to a regional race instead of districts and we had 6 cars running 3.00-3.02 on a well set up 42' best track. 138 cars in all.
The judges were not prepared or knowledgable but obviously there are A group of racers that know where and how to find the speed. I'm more worried about the "new guy" who tries to slide the 1g wheels by and i'm hoping if pointed out the judges would concede a wheel like that would be way out of bounds.
- Sullivan ... I appreciate your opinion ... I'm from Ga and raced outlaw 10" tire drag stuff for 15yrs there.. . Been to Huntsville many times... Even before the tornado wiped out the track... But..... This is not a run-what-ya-brung race... So I'm expecting rules to be upheld... And If that includes "labeling" , ya gotta call a spade a spade

Every year, I watch the inspection and think "man, they don't look for hardly anything", and then say "we're going to get wild with the mods next year"....then next year comes, and I wuss out and still use stock stuff so we don't get caught.

But I'm going to seriously eyeball the competition this year. If I see wheels that are obviously bought and lightened (If I can get that close) and they passed inspection, it's on next year.

I watched our district races for 3 years leading up to our shot at it. I saw , oil cars, 1 gram wheels, all technically illegal. We still got first last year with less mods than these. If you tune everything right. The problem with districts is its always somewhere different and different people running it, so the rules are never the same.

I am victim of the same thought process PACFANweb! That's why I thought to be prepared as I read the rules... I even called one of the race directors for this year ... and am not sure they would catch much
I am sure that there will be at least 5 cars other than ours in the very low 3.0 range... only one of the cars from last year crossed over
Like I said though I'm more worried about a new guy trying to slide something by but after reading ROCKET CAR's post... I agree ... even if he has the wheels I doubt a new guy could put the "entire-car" concept together and outrun the rest

RESULLIVAN = I should have maybe posted the rule before to avoid the "loaded question" aspect but i'm interested to hear what the rest of the group interprets from the rule
----"the plastic official BSA wheels (must have BSA insignia on them) may not be modified except for removal of small burrs and mold-seams (as described in the kit instructions) and the addition of (again) purely decorative items. No ultralights, H or V shaping, is allowed."
SO now...add this to the equation... they promoted an "open" class... but provided no rules for the "open" class
my oldest son and i were both intending to build new cars for the "open class" while my youngest ran scouts
beatup
That prompted me to call one of the race directors and I asked
me="so are there any rules or limits for the open class? or is it just 5oz and race?"
director= "oh no , its the same rules as the scout class"
me= "so its not unlimited?"
director= "no, its the same rules, just open to other people than the scouts, we thought it would be good for the dads and siblings... but you cant shave the wheels down and you have to meet the other requirements"
me= "OK thanks, i'm glad that I called, this is different than in the past years"

I thanked him for his time and ended the call... now this is our 7th year (between my 2-boys...) this is the first time the "open" class was not a wood-5oz gravity only limit but anything else goes...razors, bushings, bearings, wheelbase...
I "interpreted" "open" incorrectly !!!!! they changed the rules/structure and its not clear... so i'm not quite sure what to expect
hmmm

that's why I thought... maybe wise to have a wheel to flash at them if I saw a suspect car on the track... but they may not enforce it OR maybe i'm interpreting the wording incorrectly again ??? THOUGHTS??

ALSO ... FYI...to clarify .....the mentioning of "purely decorative items" is in the section on block/body as well... thats why its says "(again) purely decorative items in the wheel section also

hmmm

Have two cars in case some one else built an unlimited.

2nd clarification .... The rules are the same for the scout class and for the open class
We are running cars in both classes
My original concern was having enough speed with v.3's and the possibility of another competitor having 1g or so cheetahs

Good idea because it does not say anything about writing on the inside and the race officials verbiage on the phone was not clear

The rule says the wheel cannot be modified. I would say if the letteringnis removed it for sure has been modified.
