So my car, Plagiarized improved every run in April. I prepped it and tuned it on my tuning board. I ran it on the board quite a few times experimenting on the tuning. But that was it.

For a new prep break-in will running it down the tuning board help much, or does it need to run at speed on the track?

I suspect it may have been heavy on the oil but I am curious for feedback on if the improvement would have been expected on a new 1st run car with all new parts for a rookie.

The speeds were
2.9802 Heat 1 Lane 1
2.9794 Heat 23 Lane 2
2.9784 Heat 44 Lane 4
2.9768 Heat 80 Lane 3

2.9787 avg

Overall I was very satisfied with the performance. I believe it was very conservatively built and I was playing it pretty safe. I will now just do single adjustments on it over time to try and improve it.

For anyone curious of the name origin Plagiarized was named on the fact it was built almost exclusively on the published processes and DVD. It was based on other people's research. Even the Monokote finish was based off a post recommending it. I just prepped per instruction and sent it in to race. I would say Oparennens post "BUILD A GUARANTEED BSA SUB-3 WINNER FOR LESS THAN $125" was a key source for how it was built. It layed out a lot of good information in a single post and was a great starting point.

I was also pleased with my other car, Battered. It is a Derbydad car with BASX wheels and BSA peed axles. It got pretty beat up at a just for fun race in the Home Depot parking lot recently. It went off track multiple times into the pavement. Got some small chips on the nose and the wheels were a little beat up. I had to push the axles in 3 times as they were getting knocked out. Afterwards the axles were pretty loose. The foil tape over the lead wight was sanded through completely by the coarse sandpaper in the run off zone. But considering the environment it escaped in pretty good shape. I would guess it must have made at lest 30-40 trips down the track. I cringed on occasion but my son and the other kids were having a blast so it was worth it.

It took a little work to get it right after I reprepped it. One wheel took a little work to get it rolling smooth. The body has a canted front axle so it did not have to be tuned. The lifted wheel was no longer lifted, I had to bend that axle some more just to get it back off the tuning board. The DFW was even chewed up on the edge a little from the track which was a pretty rough build created the night before. It was a wooden track.

The speeds for Battered were
2.9989 Heat 14 Lane 2
2.9996 Heat 22 Lane 1
3.0001 Heat 36 Lane 4
2.9988 Heat 78 Lane 3

KP, my cars ran untested and I only used my cleaned and vacuumed garage floor to measure the drift/steer. After making any tweaks, I then ran air over the wheels to spin them briefly to "break them in". One thing I did was to listen to the car as it moved and also noted the speed, visually, to determine what was the "best" tune. Quite frankly I just may have got lucky with this method, but I will be making and taking notes when I get them back from Mid-America.
