New Fenders...

Nice set of fenders!

Speaking of fenders here, what are you guys using to create the arc for the wheel opening? I've been using a Dremel, but the sanding drums are kind of small and it takes some finesse to make the arc. Looking for an easier way, if possible. I've been looking at some spindle sanders, but the spindle size range is 1" or 1-1/2" nothing in between with the 1-1/2" being too large, in my opinion.

I use a dremel with an old wheel mounted to a mandrel with sand paper on the wheel

I get the best, I just buy derby dads fenders.

his are suger pine low grain , light and the wright size.

Just an opinion. I have been testing fenders of different shapes. I am getting best results with fairly small fenders. When I put fenders on my car like the upper row of the above picture, i.e. where they wrap over the top of the wheel, my times are worse. Now I draw a line from the top of the wheel to to the point on the forward point of the fender. The lower row above give me the best times. I.e. smaller and shorter. My front fenders are smaller yet. Also, the fender thickness should be no wider than the actual wheel tread. Again, just my opinion.

+1 I have a set of Irwins--very clean cut since edge is not serrated. Sometimes I don't even bother sanding afterwards. Its THAT clean. And the arc is perfectly round.

I use a 1 1/4" Forstner Bit to make the cut to fit the wheel. Very little sanding works great.
