New Guy Intro

I don't but know enough to get by/design my own. I work on computers as a job and play with photoshop here and there.

you? You look like you tinker a lot from all those cool picks?? What do you do?

Oh, I painted and raced my old boat. It's a 1972 16' Baja with a 2.4 mercury off shore racing motor. 92mph (well sh1t, and I couldn't think of a paint scheme for my Mid-America car!!! lol)

Thanks. Yeah. I like to tinker.

At times I have been known to accidentally tinker my nose right into other peoples business.

For the most part I like to tinker in my workshop and only come out if forced to./images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

That Batman car looks good. You must be quite a craftsman yourself.

OK, guys I need some basic help on posting. How do I insert the text from a prior post into my reply? I see the quote thing, just haven't figure it out yet. Thanks

If you mean like this, just click on the pencil looking thing right above the post you want to reply to.

Put me on your test track for awhile and I'll teach ya everything about posting!! lol

I used to race a lot when I was between 25 and 35. The 88 IROCZ (left picture) I ran it a couple of times on test days, but it was too slow and tough to handle on a road track. This is the only car I have left today. I'm making it Concourse.

My good cars were 56 Porsche Speedsters (E-class in those days), a 2500cc Porsche 1914-6 and a 1960 Porsche Carrera4 (4/cam, 2000 CC's, both in SCCA class C- back then) and a B-class Lotus Super 7 w/ 2 huge Webers. This car was by far the fastest because it weighed only 900 pounds with me in it. But it was a bear to maintain. It was so fragile that I had to tighten every bolt (body, trans and engine) on the car between races, thus requiring a timely tear-down. One of my Speedsters was "acid dipped", bringing it down to 1000 lbs, but then I had to put a large piece of sheet lead under the seats to bring it back up to regulation 1265 lbs. Other than the Lotus, It actually was the fastest of all on short tracks. When I sold the car, the new owner went to the SCCA national run-offs 2 or 3 times. For those who understand this kind of stuff, in this last speedster, I modified the transmission putting a low ratio 2nd gear in place of the first gear, then staggered the other three gears, thus being able to run 4 gears when all but a couple of the competition were only running 3. If I would have kept this car (or any other other speedsters), they would be worth a major bundle today, especially the 60 Carrera Coupe which was prepared race ready new by the factory, with Plexiglas windows (except windshield), and aluminum doors and both hoods. I ran this car in both the Daytona 24 hour, and the Sebring 12 hour.

But that is all very many years in the past. Before most of you were even a glint in your father's eyes.

Nice '66. My first car was a '67.

Thanks kind word, it is a 67 convertible. I'm the second owner, it was featured in Hot VW magazine in 2010. Seems like the more time I spend doing pinewood derby the less time I have for the other toys.

My 67 Chevelle, had a bigblock 427 with 4:11 rear, 4-speed and hurst shifter. And yes Kinser the only drag race I lost was to a GTO. Missed second gear also.
angry
Almost caught him at the end. I have had a Street Rod 67 Chevelle in the works for years. Just never get around to finishing it . I'll run it someday, just feel it won't be very aero for pinewood derby racing. My friends named my car " Freight Train " because they could hear me coming from miles away. That will be its name if I ever race it....SPIRIT.....

I am seeing a pattern forming here with some of these top tier builders.

Joe, if you give any car guy something with wheels, he'll try to race it. Doesn't matter if it's steel, aluminum, plastic, or wood! lol!

Lol Sweet!
headbang
What color was it?? We named my car Bud, but I think it was from all empty beer cans in the back! lol

Blue w/black top. Those were the good old days when gas was 30 cents a gallon. And that car needed a lot of gas. I am sure I have helped deplete the ozone layer. Sorry guys.........SPIRIT.......

I think of that scene from "Days of Thunder" when the rivals are racing their wheelchairs on the way out the hospital.

Lol

This has been echoing in my head for days:
