Hello,

So I decided to make my own Silver Bullet. I know DD4H is making a new one. So I may end up buying that one as well.

Hope you like this.

I drew out the concept in Solidworks and done the math to see what size it needed to be with which pins would give me the correct cant for any axle degree i wished to drill

I knew i would be making this on our Mazak i300ST Mill Turn machine. So i imported the solid into ESPIRT so i could generate tool path from the solid model.

I had some 4 inch round barstock laying around so i needed to turn it to have less material to mill off.

I then milled the block square.

I drilled relief holes for the pocket to fit the car body in.

Then milled the pocket into the square.

the final step was to mill the 90 degree slots. The i300St has a C axis, so all i had to do was rotate it.

And It was done...

Now...i need to figure out what project I can work on next. Maybe a wheel runout gauge.

Thanks for looking!

I will always be jealous of those of you with the expertise and tools to make stuff like this. /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif

Thanks guys!
I'm extremely lucky to have a super cool manager who lets me play on a $500,000 machine. I'm also blessed to work for a cool company.

It seems like I've made hundreds of parts for customers over the years. Knee sockets, gun parts, spray nozzles ETC... But I have the most fun making stuff I can use.

Hopefully I'll be able to add helpful knowledge on the board down the road. You guys share info so freely. That is awesome!

That's awesome. I've always wondered what I could do with such a tool. Has anyone ever considered making one of these without the pin system? I had an idea instead of using a pin underneath the block to have a step system. Picture the stairs in a building...it would be like that but on the bottom side of the block would have an interlocking set to the other part. If you want cant just adjust it where you want it and lock it in place. Each step could be marked with the degree of cant you are looking to get. Ahhh if only I had this machine/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

I was thinking of incorporating a sine bar into the process at first. Something like a sine bar vise would work pretty well I would think. They are pricey though, for a decent one.
The block I made was super simple to produce. It took an hour from design to finished part. I'm sure we could design a really awesome drill tool/fixture. I may try something down the road, depending on how well I do at bracket racing. (Ordered lots of stuff from DD4H to build a BASX car)
Yesterday I got a Harbor Freight drill press and the table is just not flat enough for my liking. So my next project will be a all aluminum table/fence for it. (I'm the guy who uses a indicator to sweep it in). I'll keep you guys posted with anything I think could be useful to see.

Looking forward to seeing what you have to post on this.
