New guy that has been building RA Racers for about three years have been very competitive untill last year when someone brought a pinewood derby car with canted rears and lightened wheels i did not check to see if it was a three wheeler or not. It beat my car by less than half a car and it was all at the start and my car was gaining at the finish line. Do you guys think it was because of the lighter wheels and having less rolling resistance at the start. My car is built with all 4 wheels touching and no steer it rolls straight with no steer over 6 feet. But my new car will will be built with what i have learned from reading your site. Any tip or tricks that yall could share that have built RA Racers would be a great help.

I don't think many guys have run RA cars which is why the lack of responses/images/boards/smilies/frown.gif

I have never built an RA Car, but yes the lighter wheels/machined wheels would be faster....

I would machine the wheels lighter and make them like razors at the contact point, run 3 wheels touching one lifted, run oil and railrun.

Railrunning alone will beat that guy even with lighter wheels....

hmmm
2 guys from SC
hmmm
I smell rivalry !!!!

5 kids is correct with his suggestions, but according to the rules for Connie Maxwell you have to use the RA racer wheels out of the pack that come with the kit. You can't use BSA wheels that have been used in the past at Connie Maxwell. They can't be machined down or made like razors, they have to remain stock in size and weight. You cant use oil, has to be a dry lube only. These rules are posted on the South Carolina Baptist Association website. 5 kids has you on the correct path with the other suggetions. The car will have to be set up different with the steer then the normal for a BSA wheeled car. Good Luck!
