New Street Stock rule amendments

i have about 5 packs with-in about 25 miles of cadiz, 1 is a 4 touching slots only rules, 1 is 3 touching slots, 2 are 3 touching but any wheelbase, and 1 is 4 touching any wheelbase.
thats why scout turn-out has always been low for my races.
the scouts do NOT have ANY national leadership for the pinewood derby.
if the national BSA would put their foot down and say these are the rules, i would be against this rule change. but as they dont seem to care, how do we define just what a real scout car is?

DNA, I agree that the scout rules are all over the place, since each pack gets to set their own...but its my opinion (and just my opinion) that the wheelbase in the block is designed to be the standard scout wheelbase. From the racing I've seen at the local level in my area, the vast majority of people still use the slots, even if the rules allow an extended wheelbase. Quadad may have a better number, but at the local district race I would estimate that no more than 5-10% of the cars had an extended wheelbase. I always drill the 4-3/8 wheelbase as to not raise any eyebrows...until the racing starts

I guess I'm just old-school...

I like the idea on wheels , the wheel base How about keep it

under 5'' move it any where you want.

to me those cars with 5-3/4 look like mods.

that way you could run front fenders that

look cool. and if someone is a tick over on

wheel base who cares just no 5-3/4 you

know where i'm coming from. letts just

try to keep it really close.
cool
cool
cool
cool

The wheel base rule change is there for hopefully allowing new racers to come into a league setting with out having to build a new car. And allowing them to be in the slower class of cars to try and be some what competitive. It is not to make the current cars faster but too allow for more fair participation for new people. Now I am sure that a little more speed my be found but its not going to be that much. If we were to put any WB restrictions then we might as well not change the rule.

First of all, this is not scout racing!!! Those of you who want to scout race there are leagues and races for you out there. I agree with both changes. Needed to be done for a long time.

AZgreg, your avatar reminds me of the old joke " Doctor!, it hurts when I do This!"
Doctor: "Don't do that!"

Street Rod unfortunately seems to be a dying class. The wheel rule will follow Street Rod though.
Personally, I'd like to see a revival. I think it's one of the coolest races, visually.

I think that a revision to the rules for it might make it competitive and fun. My first thoughts are 1)Only production cars (or racers obviously based on production cars - think rollcage added instead of funny cars) and 2)Model kits only (no RC bodies). So, El Caminos, Mustangs, WRC cars and even NASCAR cars are good. Le Mans cars, funny cars, LSR cars are not.

But, in looking at the models section of Hobby Lobby, I thought that could be too restrictive, and could open it up to prototypes and hot rod show cars (like the Munsters Mobile).

Or, make the scoring for these cars a two-part affair. Speed, and judged design based on perceived adherance to the intent of the class -- to have some rather cool production cars racing. So, the current class champion would score high in speed, but rather poorly in the judging.

Personally, I want to build up one for either PWD or AGP locally; but am having trouble finding a body that fits into the "max 2-3/4 in width" rules and I don't have the financial (or time) resources to go oil as it is not allowed in our district. But I love to see the creations...

Just my thoughts...

Stone Cold and Spirit scared everyone off....LOL.

I do like the Street Rod class a lot, the RC bodies have leveled the competition. Maybe a revision can be addressed at some point.

Yea as much as I hate to say it, I think that there needs to be a length rule. If there is no rule than there is no way to compete with the longer drag bodies. I hate the tongue thing but I think it would level the field a lot.

As for me I would like to see the Street Rod class continue but make it so that it would be a car that you would see on the street not a drag strip or Quicktime mentioned have a length limit.

Maybe we can all pull together and vote on one body style/model and have a real show down at some point in the second half of the season. I beat we could pull 15+ racers together.

This option would level the field and make some super close drag racing.

Well here's my thoughts. I've spend a lot of time , thought and energy on my STREET ROD this season and neglected the other classes at times which is where it's most important since they get league points. My whole goal was to just beat Stonecold and along the way I have learned a lot and had fun. I am OK with some minor changes like wheels in SS and extending wheelbases . Guys won't have to make new cars , it will allow new guys to enter that class. Changing the rules mid season will require me to build a new car and I won't be doing that until end of the season if I am lucky enough to make the finals and the Street Rod is part of the finals. I guess I will wait and see what the rules are for the Street Rod at that point. We are all going by the same rules set at the beginning of the season, it is up to each guy to use them to their advantage or in some cases their disadvantage. My vote would be to go back to extensions on front for the shorter cars , which is where most of the advantage is anyways. Then make a new set of rules for next season. Just my two cents.....SPIRIT..........

I agree, if any thing just get the current cars the same length. I believe that will make it a larger participation group. I hate the extenders but I think that will make it much more competitive.
