New Work Bench

Ok, tired of sweating my butt off in the garage and need to be a lot cleaner. So I'm going to build a little bench in the basement. I found a 6' countertop at homedepot for 35 bucks. It won't be heavy duty just a cleaner place to put cars together. I'll leave the sander/scroll saw and table saw in the garage.

36" counter top
4" back splash
6" shelf behind the backsplash for all the junk
and I'll pick up a new parts bin.
I'll maybe mount my drying box below the counter and maybe add a filter to the front and back.
I have a small vacuum I can mount to one side.
maybe a hanging 4' fluorescent light (no power or lights in the room I do have two home runs stubbed in)

Can you guys think of anything else that would be nice to add?

I think the clean/dirty room separation works out good. How far are you from a sink ? Some possible additions to the clean room:
- magnifier lamp that swings;
- storage boxes (axles, wheels, weights, prep materials, ...) and rack
- tuning board
- shipping materials
- paint or cover supplies

this really can go on forever !

I like the way you think Mario. Now to turn that empty room into a clean room.

How about a air compressor My garage is attached to the house so I was able to run the hose through the wall so I don't have all that noise.

I like that lamp Idea!! I have a 4' florescent light I'll hang over it I'll try first.
And I will have to do another shelf above.
The sink is a half to, Use water 10 times that of alcohol!

Ya that's going to be a real pain! I'll have to feed a hose down an I beam to hook up with my air compressor that's next to the Furnace.

Sorry for all the pics, some people might enjoy though!

Screwed and glued!
Now I understand why the counter was 36 bucks, warped like hell. That's why I made all the brackets. The thing leveled out almost perfect though!

Next =
4' florescent hanging over the bench
two two gang box's for electricity
switch for the 4 footer
put in a timer for my dryer.
and somehow get that air house down that I-beam
and two single screw in bulbs for the center of the room
all in conduit/emt

Very cool Shawn! I'd mount the electrical outlets under the bench in the front. It'll keep the cords from dragging over everything and knocking stuff off. I'd also connect them to a master switch, so you can leave stuff plugged in but not have to worry about it. Just switch and go.

Iceman, HF has cheap air hose, if the beam is finished you could try fish tape for pulling wire.

Craig

Your right on Craig, I've already had to do it once for satellite cable so I brought through an extra cable for fishing! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif We'll see if it will fit though!

Now those are great ideas Chris!! I'll probably add the plugs to the light switch. I'll have to direct connect my car dryer though, I have an extra timer 2, 4, 8 or 12 hr timer.

Thanks buddy, I need all the help I can get to keep up with you guys!!

Looking good Shawn,

Can you put some light coming out from the backsplash along with the outlets?

Please keep posting photos

A good power strip mounted to the bench should work just fine. Either above the back splash or right at the front under the counter.

Moved the 4' florescent over the bench! WOW Talk about enough light! It got pretty dark everywhere else in the room though. I'm installing two single screw in fixtures (probably run two 100 watt fluorescent bulbs) I believe the room is 12 X 24 is all.

Electrical -slow moving, Had hard time tracking down one of my home runs and then noticed I had one marked wrong. So I played around and found it and figured out how to get 1 of 2 20amp circuits to the back of the workbench.

Man if you ever want to trace a wire anywhere this is the cats meow!!! Sperry Instruments ET64220http://www.amazon.com/Sperry-Instruments-ET64220-Tracker-Tracer/dp/B00279JLBQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1407177509&sr=1-1&keywords=sperry+circuit

Ahhh Electrical: thanks to Josh (Derbychip) thanks bud! He did in it 1/4 the time it would have taken me!

still Need:
1. finalize the Coax Run
2. plugs under bench
3. mount the dryer
4. two shelves, one split left and right of the TV and one above.
5. 3 inch Vice??? I bought one but do I really need it?
