Just wanted to wish all the scouts and dads the best of luck this Saturday. We're in for some exciting racing!

Just wanted to say congratulations to Graviton Racing and his boy Noah. You guys built an outstandingly fast and solid car. Council Champion! Well deserved and long overdue.

Oh, and a shout out to Panda Bear Racing and his boy Andrew. 2nd place overall today! .0002 seconds behind Noah...you guys were right on the heals!

Congratulations to both of you! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Congrats!

With how big the North Star council is and the derby held at the Mall of America I wish they'd open it up for the whole state of MN. At least run some open classes like the Mid America.

The "Northern" Star Council Pinewood Derby Champioship Race has the potential to be everything the Mid America race is, but it would take someone with the professionalism, passion and commitment of a Greg Dawes to make it happen.

As far as the Mall of America being a great venue for the race, that's debatable and all depends whether the race is held in the Main Rotunda, or like yesteday--in West Market Square, which is a horrible place to have the race...there's not enough space, not enough chairs, more people standing than sitting, a small 40" garage sale video display so there's no way to see the names of who is racing, and no good place to even watch the race unless you're one of the lucky few sitting in the first two rows. A high school gymnasium would've been a better place than what we got yesterday.

Let us not forget, the Mall of America is in the business of making money, and so when it comes to offering their best spot (the Main Rotunda) for free to a nonprofit organization such as the Boy Scouts, or giving the spot to a home improvement seminar company that comes in at the last minute and slaps down some cold hard cash on the table, well it's an easy decision for the mall to bump the Boy Scouts and take the money an run.

There were a couple thousand spectators at various times throughout the day watching the council race in the cramped West Market Square. The home improvement seminar taking up the space of the Main Rotunda, sat completely empty for most of the day, except for around 5:30 PM when we were leaving, we did see 25 people sitting in the audience.

Forget the Mall of America... Basecamp at Ft. Snelling would be a better venue for the Council Pinewood Derby! I hope the council sees the light and makes the right decision for next year.

Ft. Snelling would be cool. We are in Gamehaven and they don't do a council race. The Hiawatha District race in Rochester is decent but could be better. They have an open bracket but it was only girl scouts and a cub master that sand bagged to let the slowest kid at least beat someone.

Agree with every single sentence. I said exactly the same thing about it being better if it was held at a HS gym. Word I got from the organizers was that this was the last straw with MOA and they are doing it at base camp next year.

And congrats to Graviton Racing! Anyone who thinks scout racing is easy hasn't raced at this event. The webelo I car we ran is almost as fast as the Street Stock I send into NPWDRL (which averaged low 2.98s last month). Not only did Graviton's car beat us, it beat us by a solid .01.

We came away with our share though. First place in Lions and 2nd place in Webelo I (behind Graviton). Here's my Lion with his winnings for the year:

Nice job and congratulations to your boys! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

If I'm not mistaken Alex got 3rd place overall which is quite the accomplishment considering how fierce the competition has gotten over the past two years.

Oh and lets not forget davet! I think he and his boy finished around 6th in the Bears, so they got a trophy on their first attempt. Nice going!

Absolutely, congrats to my bro Davet and his son Ben!!! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

It was great getting a chance to meet you. And you do look like Ray Romano!

Next year, with the right wheels and axles you will be a top contender!
