NYC race

Lol...Good one!!

The rules are a joke, that is a given and having these rules for "Pro" Stock is a even bigger joke. "No bent axles"! Who's rich daddy is influencing these rules so there kid can win. Lol (just a thought). 3 weeks before the race is being held and changing the rules again. WOW! One thing is for sure for everyone who is going and biting there tongue and having to suck it up. Your kid will not know the difference and have a memorable time in New York as long as it stays professional and it doesn't go to blows between dads and officials. Good luck to everyone at the race. If you want a real race with professionals, try one of the PWD leagues.

They did the same thing back in 2015. They completely rewrote the Rules that year adding a whole new class called Pro Stock.

Just curious, are they re-writing rules after the rules for this year were released or are they updating last year's rules? If you have built a car to last year's rules before this year's rules were released, I really do not consider that a re-write. I'm not defending anyone, but rather, trying to understand what is being discussed.

They basically integrated the rules that were in the Q&A section of the rules and not in the rule section of the rules. If that makes sense. To be honest if you need a Q&A section for the rules then your rules are not written well to start with. Good rules should leave no doubt what the rules are.

We raced 2016 in Pro Stock. It was a memorable event for my kiddo and for us as well. I don't understand why they keep changing the rules. They need to get some Pro's in there to help run the event.

They had rules that had been written for 2018. They had a Q&A PDF below the rules that stated questions and answers that made no sense, because again they were not pertaining to the rules that were written for 2018 . This week they decided to add the Q&A part into the rules changing them.

I would agree that a Q&A section seems strange and would indicate that the rules are not written well, but I would think its a good thing that they responded and clarified the rules now. It gives people the opportunity to comply. It would be far worse if they remained as they were and someone got turned away because of something in the Q&A section. I will say some of the rules are still odd preventing a lot of area scouts from participating (those that I would help be competitive) - the "no oil rule" and the "no bending rule" to be specific. They should consider changing those in the future, but at least they were responsive and removed the ambiguity. I still encourage the local area scouts to race at MA because of the rules and level of competition (you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, and that takes planning, dedication, and work), but isn't this a step in the right direction for the NYC race?

Stole that line from John :)

I agree that it's good they integrated the Q&A into the rules, however they should have put them together from the get go. I also agree with the no bend and no oil rule, and I would like to add the no after market axles rule. These are hard to enforce I feel and would give people who are willing to bend the rules an unfair advantage.

Well it is good to see that everything is still clear as mud. I have never been less excited about a race before and if I hadn't promised my sons that we would race I would just skip it. All I am going to do is pull my bent axle and replace with a straight one and race pro because I do not have time to build two new cars from official kits by this Tuesday because of life.

We were driving down the road earlier today and I yelled at the car to make a left turn with my hands off the wheel. For some reason it did not. When asked why I did that, I told my wife this is how this race will be for us.

Good luck everyone who is going.

If you yell hard enough at the pinewood derby car it might turn. Anyway I would just bring the cars with you as they are, if the axles are BSA axles that is. Just make sure you have a good replacement axle with you in case they complain. It wouldn't be the first time that certain things are suddenly allowed on race day. Or you can, as suggested on this forum before pick an axle with a very slight bent and use that axle, that will still be better than a straight axle. You don't need much bent to get that steer. Good luck and hope you guys have fun.

My son is racing this Saturday. Also racing Pro Stock. He's using four straight BSA axles per the rules and running graphite per the rules. No big deal really. I hope others follow the rules, but doubt it. We're using the wheels and axles from the car he won districts with, but I cut a new body for him (Due to time constraints, I had to do the cutting. Over the last couple of years he's done the main cutting, but no time meant I had to do it.) . He needs to sand and paint it ASAP.

We are considering to take another trip to Manhattan this year. Stingily it’s because I want to see and I want my son to see some of the sights we didn’t get to see on the last trip. It appears that the no bent axle rule nonsense is returning for another year. I’m avoiding the desire to gripe and restate what others already have and know. Our personal plan of attack is to modify the pack/district car by drilling the DFW hole both canted and very slightly toed in. We shall see how it goes! This is my first post :-). Love the site and a big thank you to all of the contributors!
