Can i convert to graphite from oil using same axles? I'd like to change race classes, if so, what are the steps i have to take to do this?

Thanks Razzy

Is your question about the axles or wheels? If it's about the axles, just strip the pledge off with alcohol really well, and prep with Jig or chain saver. Wheels would take more effort, and I would just suggest buying new.

He said he wants to go the opposite way. Oil to graphite is easier. Just do what odd said in reverse. If you have oil already applied then just be sure to get it all cleaned off. Look up burnishing with graphite for the bores and use pledge on the axles. Once you burnish with graphite you can't really go back to oil.

kk thanks....Since my son and I cant do the midamerica pinewood derby this year, my son cant do oil class

next year since he will be out of scouting.

I need some help to change from oil to graphite

thanks

Graphite will work just fine on a set of wheels and axles that were originally prepped with oil. Once the oil is removed from the wheel they can either be left as is or add a new coat of Red Rocket/wax. Cleaning whatever you coated the axles with jig, dupont, or whatever is pretty easy too.

Going the other way and grinding graphite into the bore on the other hand is not something you can clean out to go the other way back to oil.

Wheels wont work going either way..to get top speed buy new wheels..axles i think you are ok

If you have "ground graphite into the wheel bore" I would think you could re-prep the bore by first cleaning out with alcohol then using Novis 2 to burnish the bore as you do with a new wheel, then do the Red Rocket process. I find it hard to believe this would not remove the graphite! Has anyone done any testing to see if this would work?

I read the question wrong. He's going from Oil to graphite. With the wheels, the prep wouldn't be hard to do at all. Wash with dawn, reprep the wheel like you would graphite and go. Same with axles, well, clean with alcohol and re-prep with pledge. Shouldn't be too hard.
