With my current printed vinyl and optional packaging tape on top we are easily adding 1-2 grams to the body, and that after painstakingly removing as much weight from the body to begin with.

Outlaw...I can’t remember if we already talked about Bulldog’s 6.9g body vid with a Dremels work station or not. But he does a great job of working it and leaving the top and not going all the way through. Same concept, just flipped.

You’ll be glad you did... I’m on my phone but but might have a pic on here and will try to upload. I think I have a pic of my 2 league cars, the flames one being one of them but also last years Awana car which was metallic purple trim sheet main color and then chrome stripes, also trim sheet. This stuff really is cheap and easy and looks great. Let’s see if his works...
that is done by a number of racers, Pinewood Outlaw. When you put your vinyl or graphic on top though, it will become intented between the ladder rungs on your body.
Jimmy how do you get the design on top of the monokote? Are the flames cut from a second monokote sheet?
Anyway to prevent this? Normally we cover out top with a full lenght 1/64 plywood, this year I was thinking of covering only the weight pockets to save weight.
not really... unless you top the whole top portion, you will get the indentions.

That's what we normally do, however it's still quite a bit of sanding and although it takes some weight of, it's not as light as just a cover with the weights covered, however I like the extra strength it gives (which is no luxury during our scout race). I plan to cover the top with ply and than cut out a middle portion so to have a bit of extra strength from the ply, but still lose some weight. I wonder how much strength some balsa fenders covered with super glue will add to the car.

I drew them out on the back paper of the sheet then cut with an exacto blade. NOT recommended practice for those in a hurry or with no patience. I'll post a pic...
Also the shields are balsa. I ca'd them on then sanded/trimmed them to fit nice inside the wheels. It all worked out nicely. I ran him for the first time last month at APR and he wiggled to a best run of 2.9627. Certainly didn't make the podium but I was real pleased anyways.

That are some nice exacto blade skills. I think we stick with straight along a ruler, no way we can get those curves cut so nicely. Also you got those air shields nice and round. I think we just will try out the plastic ones. This is our last district race, so maybe we will deck our car out with all the speed tricks allowed within the rules.

Thanks FDM! I really am not sure I’ll do it that detailed again. Notice the one pic of a bigger flame. That will be easier. I have always been the artsy tartsy type. I enjoy that stuff but I tell ya... I can be tough. Just need extremely sharp brand new blades or forget it.
The airshields I can take credit for how perfectly round they are. Those were cut by my buddy Mike, aka Reecedad. He’s been a huge help to me getting into this hobby.
Yeah mojo dose some good work I have seen a few of his cars up close he dose have some good building skills lol
I use some of these 1/100 of an oz chips inside the build, and a string of 4 of them across the back held on with scotch tape. Then at weigh in, I can remove 0.04 if I need to, or add 0.05 if scales allow without opening up the car. Chips are only 1 mm thick, and 9 go across the back easy.
In the photo, chips and cubes not in the place they would end up- just needed to move some cubes to keep car balanced on scale.
