I want to thank all of the pros for the free advice and definitely want to thank derbydad for his products. The graphite and the polishing kit made our car pretty fast. We had our pack race yesterday and it wasn't close. The car that came in second place in the overall race was .178 seconds slower than my sons car.

The best advice we got was to properly tune the car. We were able to test our car the night before the race. We apparently had WAY too much steer in our car and after dialing it back we piked up an additional .08 seconds. My son actually felt bad that we were beating his friends by several feet.

Anyway thanks a lot for the advice. District race next weekend, and we are hoping we win that one as well.

Nice job guys!!

thanks guys.

Not only did my son's car win, my daughter's car won the sibling race and my car won the adult race. We had a clean sweep. After the race one of the dads came up to me and asked how we got our cars to be so fast. I told him about the axle prep, bore prep etc, of course he did none of this for his son's car other than hammer the nails into the axle. As we were talking my son walks up and the dad tells my son that I'm telling him all about how we built our cars. My son looks at both of us and tells me not to tell the secrets. The dad then tells my son that he was willing to pay for the information. My son gets this big grin and says "give me half of it and it's a deal". My little entrepreneur always after a quick dollar.

Anyway, I told him all about this site and told him that he really needed to pay ya'll. I have belonged to a lot of websites/message boards and rarely do you find a free board that is willing to share information especially since some of you guys compete against each other.

This is by far the best pinewood derby site out there.

We had our District race today. They actually combined two districts for today's race. This was one of the longest races I have seen. Thanks to all of the great advice and Derby Dads products my sons car won first in Bears and first overall making him the Grand Champion.

Our rules state you must use the original axle slots. The car that came in second (very close race) had an extended wheel base. They let it by inspection because his axles were in what looked like the original slots. I guess their thought process was that the scout got a bad kit that just happened to have the axle slots in the wrong position. I'm not sure that's possible but he had a fast car. Anyway, my sons car (with fenders) was barely able to sneak out the win.

Thanks again derby dad. My son is one happy little boy.
