Polish outside of wheel?

Has anyone ever used pledge and or graphite to polish the actual tread of a wheel? Is there a benefit?

I just found a thread that says the outside wheel should be clean.

And to actually clarify JustSayin nobody's makin fun of your question here. It's a legit question and something we have all wondered about and probably experimented with in the beginning. So listen to Mojo, Loud2ns, B Regal, and Turbo Sloth. ....no pledge, no graphite.......clean

so clean, in fact, that I use a tread conditioning tool (fingernail buffer) to make sure I have nothing on my wheels. Then I wipe them off with a microfiber rag to get any remaining dust, or whatever, off of them.

So maybe to actually contribute to the thread rather than my earlier post being smarty pants, I once burnished the outside of a set of wheels with graphite. I thought they looked awesome, a nice shiny gunmetal gray. Car slithered like a snake all the way down the track!

And that is exactly what happens, Brian...

When you have wheels that are slick as snot, they car has no traction in the DFW for steer to keep the car stable. Also, the rears will be so slick the slightest move in the car will actually be made worse because the car is not able stop the side move in a wiggle.

It is bad enough that the wheels pick up graphite from the races, because packs refuse to move on from graphite rules, but adding to the graphite isn't helping the cause.
